Nurses with Less than 4 Years Education Rejected in New Zealand

Filipino migrant groups in New Zealand have launched online petitions calling on the Wellington government to review a new ruling that automatically denies registration to Filipino nurses who obtained their degrees in the Philippines in less than four years.

The petitions, launched by Philippine Nurses Speak Out! (PNSO), call on the Nursing Council of New Zealand to give Filipino nurses a fairer assessment, saying some of them graduate early because this is their second college course.

According to Ruby Lat of PNSO, Filipino “second courser” nurses include those who obtain degrees in Biology, Psychology, Dentistry, Medicine and other allied courses before taking up Nursing, thus they already had earned credits and are able to graduate in less than four years.

One petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/ petition/philnursespeakout) is for the affected nurses, while the other (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/supportphilnursespeakout/) is for supporters of their cause.

According to Philippine Ambassador Bienvenido Tejano, there are about 50 nurses overstaying in New Zealand after their applications were rejected.

naa bay nursing nga less than 4 years? that's no longer BSN basi vicational lang na. Nganong mag buot man sila sa Government sa NZ ug mao jud ang gi require?

singan!!!mobalik sila sa Pinas then finish what is required, PERIOD!

ang mga "second coursers" na, da bins. uban ana nila mga med-tech, doctors ug mga nakahuman na sa laing kurso, pero related sa medicine. sa pinas gud, og "second courser" di na man moabot og 4 years ang imong pageskwela sa nursing. mao nay problema ron diha. looy tawn pod kay gipangreject. hagbaya ra man nang sitwasyona, nganong ang NZ karon pa man ni reklamo.

our youngest sis ,who has just passed the nursing board exams , was a second courser. pro sa HNU, ipaabot jud sila ug 4 years.maybe, in other schools, gi-less lang so mao na nahitabo.

Standard man na sa curriculum nang mga pre requisite subjects sa atoa. I really dont know the NZ law, pero diri sa Merika when i took my nursing course all my pre requisite  which is BSEEd subjects were credited mao nga ning ambak ko sa nursing proper and clinical etc. So it only took me for 2 more years to study.

BTW, BSEEd degrees sa atoa can teach here, FYI! So kadtong nag planong mo ari mga maestra, yes! i can guarantee you that you can teach here with of course passing some test. Ma petition pa ka.

I think ang course ni Elsie aka st. agnes na belong ani na program kay 2nd courser man to siya. Murag nahimo nalang 2 yrs.

Special program man yata to ilang Elsie, if I am not mistaken mura ug pilot class sila.  It wasn't because she graduated already of a previous 4-year course.

Our youngest sister Terter, second course na pod nya ang Nursing, both courses she took at HNU.  I think sa pag Nursing nya, dili jud completely 4 years kay naa naman na credit na mga minor subjects like basic English, Math, Science and the likes busa mura'g more or less 3 years ra nya gi take.  I will talk to my sister if sakto ba ni akong gi jama-jama. :)

If you passed your exams; both of you should invest in NYCLEX review and aim to do well on these exams. New Zealand may apply such limitations on entrance due to the fact that they are applying more protectionist policies.

However, I guarantee you, that in the United States of America, this country is in dire need and in shortage of nurses at the moment and in the future.

i do understand Gate! pero who could change a NZ governement? we nurses from other countries? gigamayan raman gud sila tingali sa NZ, wa sila kabalo nga abi nila pwede lang mag protest2x. NZ is a rich country and they could hire nurses whom they think would qualify. So kitang mga Nurse sa laing nasud, mao nalang na atong mahimo-to comply the requirements!

Murag ma pwede ko dra mag teach ms da binsi dra sa US. Pero dri sa Canada esp. sa British Columbia, bisan unsa pa nahuman nimo kung wla Canadian Certificate and experience, dli jud pwede. Naa ko kaila teacher from Pinas, before sya nag move sa BC, teacher sya sa New York with Masters. Pag abot sa BC, gi pa eskwela og usab then practicum pa pod. FAET!
