This topic was once brought up in a webmasters' forum site in which I am also a member. Forum caretakers are in a consensus that a forum site exists for a relatively different purpose. Forum sites are made to inform people (sustained information-sharing) while social networking sites are made as the term suggests. If we may notice, it's really hard to sustain a topic in a social networking site. I wonder whether one can still follow his/her FB status posted two years ago.

To compare the two (forum site and social networking sites), it really depends what an individual is looking for: some people may find it important to visit social networking sites to get updates on whether others are drinking hot or cold coffee (perhaps at starbucks?), or others have just bought a new dress/underwear, or friends are eating a hot cake, or others have just fed the hungry courtesy of farmville, and all sorts of ego bragging and narcissism, while some people may find it a delight to know what's happening to their communities and the very world they live in.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. - John 3:16-18

In terms of number of visitors, it's actually increasing day by day courtesy of Google search results. 70 to 80 percent of TubagBohol visitors come from Google search results.

One time I was approached in an informal party and the person informed me that she is visiting TubagBohol every day. She said she is not a member of TubagBohol yet as she is too busy reading new topics here but she always runs out of "office time" to make a reply/comment.

It's a really good site. I would compare Tubag Bohol to Delta Airlines Luxury Class. You get a host of condiments , flavors, tastes, spices during the flight.

I enjoy the interaction with the many bright minds in this forum.

obviously facebook, twitter and other social sites are for socializing, something that tubagbohol never claimed it is though there's no bar if some members veer towards socializing in the natural flow of exchanges (an enjoyable one within tb, come to think of it).

socializing is a lot easier to do than forming one's opinion about things and events and framing and sharing it.  if only because of this, i can understand the number of adherents to those social sites.

i can't say much about those social sites because i never had an account in any of them and i'm not interested in opening one soon.  more so after i learned that a niece of mine, whose neck i'd like wring but for my respect for her parents, had announced her engagement on facebook, complete with pictures of their wedding rings.  what got my goat was that there's no groom-to-be in sight.  i took that as her "up yours" to a former boyfriend.  what the... is nothing sacred anymore, like privacy?
