For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. - John 3:16-18

And honeymoon, too (if any)  ;D

Not necessarily to spend much of your wedding... though it only happens once, " modesty is simplicity", what matter most is LOVE.... Live within your means, start your married life with no monetary obligation or liability from outside, no overdraft, shortages, past dues and 5/6 hehehehe......  pareha tong estorya nga mipaso na ang ug bride ug groom nga puro naghilak, abi intawon sa nanambong sa kasal, na miss nila ilang pagka "single" ug ilang pamilya kay mahilayo na lagi..... na worry diay intawon sila unsaon pagbayad sa utang nga ilang gigasto sa kasal labi na ubay-ubay ang pakaunon.... ;D ;D
listen to others even the dull and ignorant , they too have their story... desiderata

no, but the egos of the couple and their families could be, which can be prohibitively expensive.

my own wedding is still a conversation piece for my nieces.  unbelievably cheap, they say.  naturally.  my own dress cost only 95 pesos. (lol!)  it was an off-the-rack thing that no one wanted because it was so small.  but it fitted me to a t because i was only 87 pounds then.

not that my ego is zilch; it's just that i've always hated being a star in my own production, especially one that i can direct.  in other words, i never liked the idea of walking down the aisle, oogled at by strangers.  i took only three steps, from the first pew of the small chapel to the altar.  there was no one except immediate family members and two close friends.  reception cost:  2,500 pesos.  the only fly in the ointment was the groom's choice of drinks, a bottle each of hennessy and dom perignon.  but that's another story.  besides, that was his money.

i don't think i'm less married now just because my wedding wasn't anyone's dream wedding but my own.

Reminds me of my vestment for ordination at P300+, the cheapest I could get. Wow, it's been 26 years now and still kicking dusts along the journey. The only thing that cost was food as the whole townsfolks were expected to partake being the town's "first priest-to-be-ordained," but scheduling it day before the town fiesta was even smarter (not because we were being cheap but because we were poor (LoL)  ;D

If it is according to God's Will, I would like to have my wedding as grand as my parents'. The wedding of my parents,  Engr. & Mrs. Lucino was all provided for by my father , who purchased a wedding dress that was woven and made in Cebu; to the maidens and the guests of honor. From the cost of the mass, cost of the dresses, transportation etc, to the feeding of the whole town of Valencia, all of it was provided for by my father.

My father provided my mother with a memorable wedding in Valencia's Santo Nino Parish Church. Amongst all the people of the town.

Should a Wedding Be Expensive?

Practicality nowadays counts.  Pwede man gani sa mga  “eat all you can, as low as P99.” ;)

it looks like that made it a doubly blessed fiesta.  i would have opted for the same practical move... for one thing, food seems to taste better the day before a fiesta.

hehe, as i only had the ego of a very private person and spared no thought for fortune, my own no-nonsense wedding was grand in its simplicity.  i did not invite a single relative. ;D  parents, brothers and sisters and their children were all i wanted for my private affair.  i didn't have a bouquet (what's that for?) and the arras became an afterthought.  (someone had to hurriedly buy it minutes before the wedding.)  the groom let me run the whole show the way i wanted it.  it was memorable.

For some reason the Church does talk about ego trip vs. production-style weddings. Probably to avoid judging the person(s) than the action or the decision to do a big "to-be-seen-by-others" wedding. LoL  ;D

The wedding that my parents had represented Traditional Filipino Wedding. It was something that my father and mother planned. Considering all expenses were covered by my father , it was symbolic, actually. The union between the two families, and the beauty and organization of it all was captured in the recording that was made in 1984.

My father had hired video crews from Tagbilaran to video tape the entire ceremony. All of which survived to this day. We had recently converted the old tape to DVD and in in it are the preserved voices, pictures, films of my grandmothers, both of whom are gone. I was able to see my parents walk the isle through their preserved videos, and to see how beautiful my mother was dressed , and how handsome my father enrobed in his barong tagalog.

Inpsiring kaayo. They were both wed in Santo Nino Parish Church in Valencia, Bohol. The same church that my grandparents were wed in, and my great-grandparents before them, and my great-great grandparents before them...

A typical wedding here in the United States is quite expensive. A friend of mine recently had a Roman Catholic Wedding in church and post-wedding festivities a banquet hall for 150 heads. The cost of everything was over $100,000.
