In the innocence of my childhood,
My eyes would discern the colors of the world,
the honest and beauty of familial honesty.

There were many reassuring things in my youthful days.
The Love of Family.
The Trustworthiness of Family.
One of the core pillars of that Family was You, Mama Luz.

When I came back home from Bohol Wisdom School,
I would stop by your house.
I would sit in the dining table.
Sit next to you.
You were siting in the head of the table;
with a cup filled with coffee and hot pandesal

"Kamusta Doy"
You would ask, with your quitessential smile.
My Mama Luz. The Mother of my Father.
Mo ingon pood ko, "Musta Mama Luz"

Then you would read my mind.
And ask, "Na gutom ba ka Doy?"
Uwawon man gud ko, so mo ingoon pood ko, 'Di man.'
Then you smile.
And with a smile, you ask the maids to fetch a big cup of Milo and Pandesal for me.
I did not even have to ask.

I miss you, Mama Luz.

I close my eyes
and i am brought back to the past,
i can smell the salty air of panglao, bohol.

The family in our jeep.

Uncle Roy in the driver's seat driving us all to panglao. With his black Ray Ban sun glasses.
Mama Luz in the back sitting with me, jingjing, angel, uncle roger in the passenger seat.
Mommy Wella and the items of food in pots and pans.

I can hear the clinking of the pots, the dishes, the admixture of the sweet fragrance of food and the smell of blue ocean's breeze.

I can feel the warmth of the boholano sun, the caress of the boholano winds blushing my face, my hair dancing with the winds. Time preserved in my youthful memory. And in that exact moment, I can hear your laughter, i can see your face, your smile, your hand brushing my head. As angel, jing and i sit next to our grandmother. Our Mama Luz.
