San Miguel - Bohol / Re: Outstanding Mayor
« on: February 13, 2009, 10:29:05 PM »

KALAHI is a new project of the Arroyo administration which kicked off last 2002. The project has plenty of programs under it like Education Assistance Program (in which I am one of the beneficiaries) and Livelihood Program. After the project was successfully implemented in pilot towns (Dagohoy and Danao), KALAHI-CIDDS followed wherein San Miguel and other towns became part.

It took time siguro tungod kay dili man pud dali-dali ang pag implement sa program and then the evaluation usually happens in the end or while the program is ongoing. At least, they were able to use the fund in a very proper way and they were able to implement the program successfully. It's a lot of hardwork and I know it because I have seen how our coordinators in the Educational Assistance Program have worked hard to monitor the program beneficiaries. I am very thankful to them for they have been part of what I am right now.

This thread is quite funny.

Although there are some universities which have started to develop Science and Mathematics textbooks (I heard Ateneo has developed one), it has to be understood that English has deeply rooted in Philippine education system that changing the medium of instruction from English to Filipino is a great education reform which would need an "excessive amount of money". There's so many issues facing the quality of our educatiion today which needs to be addressed.

Why did I say that it needs excessive amount of money? Here are the reasons:
1. We have to invest for the development of new textbooks (in Filipino language) which is more expensive than just revising the widely used textbooks in English.
2. We need to train Science and Mathematics teachers per se for them to adopt the changes that this new medium of instruction might bring. (Remember that teachers are trained in colleges and universities in English)
3. If the government is aware, researches have to conducted first in order for this policy to be implemented successfully. There should be pilot schools to measure the feasibility of the project/reform.

If something needs to be changed, it should be something which is not working or something which is causing a problem. English isn't causing problems in our government and it even helps us in sustaining our economy. WHY NOT CHANGE THOSE IRRESPONSIBLE EMPLOYEES IN THE DEPED, INSTEAD? hahahaha.....

If the reason of those "idiots" is that Filipinos start to lose their identity and values because of English then they are wrong. We are Filipinos even if we speak all the languages in the world. Give more attention on values integration in different academic disciplines because that is what we need and not eradicate something which has been so useful.

This topic is very helpful not only to emcees but to teachers as well who, most of the time, are engaged in public speaking (especially when working with the students). I  found the jokes very funny and very useful.

For everybody's info, I will copy it in my thumb drive with credit to the one who posted and to TB of course.

I know it's "I" because me is an objective pronoun, not a subjective pronoun. The question is asking for the doer of the action and not the receiver of the action.

CORRECT: It's I who build community.
ERRONEOUS: It's me who build community.

People know Danao more than my place. At least, Boholanos know where is Danao because of Francisco Dagohoy and Danao is going national in terms of echo tourism. Danao is not new. People doesn't even know that my town is a town. Anyhow, I can;t blame them for my town was once a colonia of a popular scond-class municipality.

but most teachers are from the countryside and not from the big cities because people in the big cities usually opt for business, medical or IT- related courses.

I am from countryside... From the town that amazes Boholanos as they ask, ASA MAN NA? :D :D

Anonymous Diary Blog / Thesis Writing and TB Posting
« on: February 07, 2009, 11:46:46 PM »
It's quite unusual. I just noticed that there's a direct relationship between thesis writing and TB posting. The more posts I have in TB (I am now a senior member), the more thoughts I acquired for my thesis. I am done with the most crucial part of my study which is the conceptualization of conceptual framework.

I just want to share the laughter guys. It's a very rare event. hahaha However, I know it won't work forever so I should give focus few minutes from now... :D :D :D

In some international conferences here, it's pretty funny how big countries like USA, UK and Singapore admit the current problems in their education system and that they are doing their best to patch things up. However, the Philippines always boasts for having the best system of education and there's no problem within it. Even the education of our country is politically driven. There are people who become voiceless in the name of politics which they claim as national mandate.

Teaching is not a lucrative job and not an attractive course for the Filipino youths and for this, the government has to do something. It's a very big problem. We are losing good teachers and our teacher-training institutions are becoming inefficient.

Pictures of Troy University and Coventry University can be seen around the main campus and city campus of St. Theresa Inti College. They're very nice.

Their Thailand counterpart's website: www.stic.ac.th
