World Daily News / What If He Was A Muslim?
« on: November 12, 2008, 01:19:53 PM »
This  has been chosen the TIME Magazine's famous photo essay, and if you please take time to read it...and why this essay has made Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama...

Nisha Khan, Kareem's step mother over his grave

Colin Powell said on Meet the Press:

I'm also troubled by - not what Senator McCain says - but what members of the Party say, and it is permitted to be said: such things as, "Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim." Well, the correct answer is he is not a Muslim. He's a Christian; has always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, "What if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country?" The answer's "No, that's not America." Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim American kid believing that he or she could be President? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own Party drop the suggestion he's Muslim and he might be associated with terrorists. This is not the way we should be doing it in America.

I feel strongly about this particular point because of a picture I saw in a magazine. It was a photo essay about troops who were serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay was of a mother in Arlington Cemetery. And she had her head on the headstone of her son's grave. And as the picture focused in, you could see the writing on the headstone. And it gave his awards - Purple Heart, Bronze Star; showed that he died in Iraq; gave his date of birth, date of death. He was twenty years old. And then at the very top of the headstone, it didn't have a Christian cross. It didn't have a Star of David. It had a crescent and a star of the Islamic faith. And his name was Karim Rashad Sultan Kahn. And he was an American. He was born in New Jersey, he was fourteen years old at the time of 9/11 and he waited until he could go serve his country and he gave his life.

Now, we have got to stop polarizing ourself in this way. And John McCain is as non-discriminatory as anyone I know. But I'm troubled about the fact that within the Party we have these kinds of expressions

Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, Muslim, Born in America and American Citizen

The most moving part of the statement Colin Powell gave on Meet The Press endorsing Barack Obama for president centered on the story of one grave in Arlington. It is the grave of Kareem Khan, a young man from New Jersey who was so moved by the tragedy and shock of Sept. 11, 2001, when he was just a boy, that he enlisted in the Army as soon as he could.

Khan liked video games, the Dallas Cowboys and Starbust candies. He was also a Muslim. Powell talked about the whispering campaign among some McCain supporters who say that Obama is Muslim.

First, Powell said, it is not true. Obama is a Christian, and always has been.

Second, Powell emphasized, what if he is Muslim? Isn't that the American way -- that a Muslim, or an Episopalian, or a Jew, or a Hindu or anyone else can grow up in this country with the same dream -- the dream that anything is possible, even the presidency.

The Gannett News Service profiled Khan after his death in 2007 from a bomb:

Khan's faith in Islam is important now to his father and stepmother, Nisha Khan, because they want to make sure people in America know that Muslims like Kareem were willing to fight for their country. "His Muslim faith did not make him not want to go. It never stopped him," said Feroze Khan. "He looked at it that he's American and he has a job to do."

The last package Nisha Khan, 40, sent her stepson included a necklace that had Kareem's name in Arabic, next to the word "Bismillah," which means praise to Allah.

In the Islamic tradition, last rites must be within a few days of death. Khan's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia is scheduled Thursday. The family will perform traditional Islamic rites at home and have a full military burial.

"Hopefully Allah will understand," said Nisha Khan.

The Arlington Cemetery website features the full article and many photos (including one shown here) that keep Khan's memory glowing. Click for the full Kareem Khan story, a story that influenced Colin Powell, and, perhaps, the course of the election.

Im thinking of continuing Aya's legacy and that is collecting Orchids and improve my photography skills...Aya, i still cant forget all the conversations we had of so many things, our photography, our love of nature, the profession we have as Huka-sans,  the garden and the lesson you gave me on growing indoor plants specially the delicate orchids. I never forget the promise you told me of growing the same plant so we could compare the progress of the plant in the day-to-day basis but i never get a chance to get the cheap plants so i promised to postpone it til this summer and yet wa pa jud madayun. So many regrets but life has to move on, Aya dear. I know you would say the same thing dear. I will treasure all the memories you shared to me, the fun of all the green jokes we exchange in our photos that forever remain in my memories.

« on: September 10, 2008, 09:31:09 AM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmHJP46Hg6w&feature=related

Today our temperature is getting lower ( a bit earlier compared from last year), and we will even have frost  toinight  for the first time this year, i felt im going to miss the warm nights again, and i cant help myself from reminiscing my life in warm Los Angeles at this very moment.

This time of the year i go to the Hollywood Bowl to watch the yearly Orchestra performances by the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra (one of the world's best) which was conducted by mostly John Williams, well depending of the theme of what they are playing, but i always choose these theme when they are going to perform the movie themes that falls at the very last of the summer season.

I cant helo myself and i cried. I dont want to regret because i really loved it here but i cant deny that i missed LA still.

I know what im feeling right now and i dont want to feel this longer for i know this will turn out into my depression episode and i hated it! Im really hoping that i could occupy my mind by DOKDOKING TB and forget my blues! :-\

My dear Bora and C2H4 i felt like im going to take that boat alone this time. Tiya Gracia, Ginger and Macky, im longing to laugh with your jokes! (Ning tukar akong winter blues kay tugnaw man gud) sa Pinas pa ning tugnawa ni daghan mahimong bata kay ang mga Pinoy ganahan mag patid-patid ug ting tugnaw! PASTILAN!  ;D

The Story Of My Wings  ;)

Last Week was very stressful for me and the whole family, my family and banana's family. But this wing's story came one of our problem, a problem that i/we thought that cant be solved. That means we thought that there will be a TOTAL KAPUT that will happen last week.

Anyhow, that wing was given to me from a Cleveland flight doctor. My banana's daughter was brought to the emergency room due to a severe infection of her blood. Elizabeth has a very rare disease called Pulmonary Hypertension that is not common to every hundred thousands of people. So she had that since last year and has a lifetime treatment of a certain medication that is pump straight into her heart. She has been carrying that small pump which pumps every hour to dilate her pulmonary veins which is or will get constricted when the pump wont work. To make that story short, Liz had a Hickman line a intravenous catheter that could trasport her medication traight to her Jugular Vein, to the heart. Then last week she got infected and brought to the ER in our town. Sense Liz is Cleveland's experimental patient (agi sa rare disease lagi) so only cleveland could treat any of her complications.

Dodong Insoy this all reminded me of you because of these young doctors who are very well verse of what they are doing. Anyway, Cleveland pick Liz up here in our hospital with Cleveland's own Copter (of course with the aid of some insurances and the dad), Dios Ko Dodong ang mga Flight nurses and a very young doctor pwerte ka hanas! I/we were very surprised that they knew the protocol of Liz illness! OMG! Dodong sa ilang ca cute dagko kaajo ug backpacks kay they are bringing with them their own machine sa Copter Dodong! in other words ang Copter is just like an ICU room! And i learned that they were ICU crews!!!

Dodong, i am wishing nga you will be like them one day! I think it is FUN! Before i will forget the story of those WINGS -dings ;), Gihatag sa young DOCTOR nako! ning bukad jud akong atay! wa jud katingug si banana!!! wahahhahahaha ;D ;D ;D

So mao nay storya sa wings... taas kaajo na pero i tried to make it as short as possible para dili mo ma bored!

PS. i am sending you that wing! an insperation nga one day, you will become a very good doctor too.
