5 MORE REASONS WHY FISH IS GOOD FOR YOU (From Sunday Inquirer Magazine, Oct. 21)

1)   Oily fish like mackerel, herring and sardines contain Omega-3 fatty acids, a type of polyunsaturated fat that helps reduce total blood cholesterol and may reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers.
2)   Medical studies have shown that Omega-3 oils also help in brain development.
3)   Seafood contains an abundance of essential minerals like iron, zinc, iodine and selenium.
4)   Fish is a good source of vitamins that help maintain healthy nerve tissues, strong bones and teeth and a glowing complexion.
5)   Fish is low in fat and a good fat source or protein that is essential for the healthy growth and maintenance of muscles and body tissues.

among the participating nations. As leaders in the program, they will also head for Laos.

Tagbilaran City - Bohol / Re: Exquisite Photography, Now Open!
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:59:35 AM »

Why, thank you, Vids! Feeling "Kris Aquino" kuno (:-). He! He!

Bitaw, igang man god kaayo, that's why I dare to wear tank (tube) tops, halter, etc.  nowadays. It has something to do with global warming...

Speaking of global warming, I saw that documentary of US VP Al Gore on the subject shown on BCCTV last Sunday night after the Exquisite Photography grand opening. It's very informative and a must-see for all people, especially students, teachers and government officials.

Vids, I wish you could organize an info caravan on that on the provincial level, since you are with the Provincial Government Media Affairs (PGMA) office. If people who really fix their full attention to that, they will be moved to do something to save our planet earth even in their own simple ways.

The public has to know the ill-effects of global warming...too many to enumerate man god...

Hello everyone at Tubag Bohol!

I must say I am honored for the trust - it means so much to me - but hadlok ko anang butanga. I am a government employee, so mahadlok ko ma-question why I will be the one to receive the donation for the fallen security guard, although it is for a good intention.

For my part, after reading your messages here, I called the Bank of Commerce and spoke with the manager, Mr. Alfeo Ligason (038-411-5400), who was so thankful for your intention to giving something for the family of the late REMIGIO SARAGOZA CAÑIZAR, originally from Guindulman, but now residing with his family at Habitat Village, Bool District, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

I asked Mr. Ligason if it was possible for me to open a bank account for Tubag Bohol then care: Fiel Angeli E. Araoarao-Gabin for the purpose of accepting or facilitating the donation. However, he explained that if it is the group that will open the account, the bank officials will have to ask for other documents or requirements and it will take time.

He suggested instead that he can allow me to open a PESO SAVINGS ACCOUNT without any initial deposit for the abovementioned purpose but using my name.

I then asked him for the cellphone number of the late security guard's wife, but since he doesn't have it, he gave me the phone number of Holy Name Funeral Homes (038-411-3221). When I called for the wife, she was out, so I talked with NECRIS IVY CAÑIZAR-FUENTES, sister of the victim (security guard), who gave me the following information:

Name of the victim's wife: CANDIDA BALUCAN CAÑIZAR from Loay, Bohol
Address: Habitat Village, Bool District, Tagbilaran City,  Bohol
Occupation: Homemaker / Plain housewife
Contact number: (0921) 4320210
Number of children: 4
Names of children:

- Charmaine Ann, 15 YO, 3rd year high school student,Holy Trinity School, Loay (living with
   the grandparents in Loay)
- John Ryan, deaf-mute, Special Education student, Tagbilaran City Central Elementary
   School
- Neil Louie, 12 YO, Grade 6 pupil, Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School
- Sheila Mae, 8 YO, Grade 2 pupil, Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School

I think it would be best to contact Mrs. Caridad Cañizar who may have a bank account number, so you can just send the money DIRECTLY to her account. Let me tell you, guys, lisod na kaayo'g maisyuhan ko. I will really want to help out, but I am really very careful on this matter. Basin unya'g some people might say misulod ko sa eksena, although I would just want to help... kuyaw diri sa Bohol... (there's too much "crab mentality," "politicking," "show business," hypocrisy, etc...)

Whatever transpires after your talk with the wife, please let me know, so I can also give updates to the bank manager, as promised.

I hope this helps... for now...

Sincerely,

Fiel

Madz makes history as world’s best choir
By Doreen G. Yu
Tuesday, August 28, 2007

They’ve done it again – and as always, they’ve done so in perfect harmony.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers, popularly known as the Madz, was again proclaimed the best choir in the world after topping the 2007 European Choral Grand Prix in Arezzo , Italy last Sunday, the only choir to ever win the distinction twice.

The Madz first won the honor in 1997 in Tours , France . The European Choral Grand Prix was established in 1989.

The group bested four other championship choirs from Cuba , Hungary , Russia , and Taiwan . They earned the right to compete in this year’s Grand Prix by winning the Florilége Vocal de Tours in France last year.

Winners of choral competitions held annually in Arezzo and Gorizia, Italy ; Varna , Bulgaria ; Tolosa , Spain ; Tours , France ; and Debrecan , Hungary automatically qualify for the next year’s European Choral Grand Prix. The site of the Grand Prix is rotated among the six cities.

The Grand Prix winner, or laureate, receives a diploma, trophy, cash prize up to 4,000 euros and other prizes determined by the organizing city. Strict competition rules prohibit the laureate from competing in international choral competitions for the next two years.

The Madz was organized in 1963 by National Artist for Music Andrea O. Veneracion as the University of the Philippines Madrigal Singers, composed of students, faculty and alumni of the university.

Following a Renaissance tradition, they sing in a semicircle without a conductor. The Madz has an extensive repertoire that ranges from classic choral masterpieces to avant-garde compositions, Renaissance madrigals to folk, pop and humorous novelty numbers.

The group hit the international stage in 1969 at the 1st Choruses of the World Festival at the Lincoln Center in New York , and has performed to critical and popular acclaim all over the world. They have won top prizes in practically all international choral competitions, and have nearly 40 Philippine and international recordings. They have performed before royalty and heads of state, including Pope Paul VI, King Juan Carlos of Spain and American Presidents Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon.

The Madz led by choir master Mark Anthony Carpio will return to Manila today.
