I mean, he’s so blatantly stupid. He’s a punk. He’s a dog. He’s a pig. he’s a con, a bulls—t artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, doesn’t do his homework, doesn’t care, thinks he’s gaming society, doesn’t pay his taxes. He’s an idiot.

Colin Powell said it best: He’s a national disaster. He’s an embarrassment to this country. It makes me so angry that this country had gotten to the point that this fool, this bozo, has wound up where he has.

He talks [about] how he wants to punch people in the face? Well, I’d like to punch him in the face. This is somebody that we want for president? I don’t think so. What I care about is the direction of this country. And what I’m very, very worried about is that it might go in the wrong direction with someone like Donald Trump.

If you care about your future, vote for it.

We kept telling each other — almost convincing ourselves — that it was subtle. Sure, there was bias against women, but it was “unconscious” bias, and awareness would make it go away. Yes, studies showed a glass ceiling, but that was because of the signals we were sending, and if we just dressed differently, or stood differently, or spoke differently at meetings, we could “lean” it all away.

Most of all, we told ourselves, it was a different world now — what with the first woman well on her way to being president.

What irony (predictable, perhaps, but ironic nonetheless) that the single greatest achievement of a woman in American history serves to show how far women haven’t come.

MOSCOW - Russia further curtailed its cooperation with the United States in nuclear energy on Wednesday, suspending a research agreement and terminating one on uranium conversion, two days after the Kremlin shelved a plutonium pact with Washington.

The Russian government said that as counter-measures to the U.S. sanctions imposed on Russia over Ukraine, it was putting aside a nuclear and energy-related research pact with the United States.

It also said it was terminating for the same reasons an agreement between its nuclear corporation Rosatom and the U.S. Department of Energy on feasibility studies into conversion of Russian research reactors to low-enriched uranium.

On Monday, President Vladimir Putin suspended a treaty with Washington on cleaning up weapons grade plutonium, signalling he is willing to use nuclear disarmament as a new bargaining chip in disputes with the United States over Ukraine and Syria.

"The regular renewal of sanctions against Russia, which include the suspension of Russian-American cooperation in the field of nuclear energy demands the adoption of countermeasures against the U.S. side," the Russian government said on its website.

In Washington, a State Department spokesman said the United States had not received an official notification from Russia although he had seen media reports of the suspension of the research agreement.

"If they're accurate, we would regret the Russian decision to unilaterally suspend cooperation on what we believe is a very important issue that's in the interest of both of our countries," spokesman Mark Toner said at a daily news briefing.

General Topic / Update the Nobel Prizes

OCT. 3, 2016

In the mid-1960s, Robert Paine, a scientist at the University of Washington in Seattle, discovered a hidden organizing principle in the coastal ecosystem he was studying. When a certain species of starfish was present, a panoply of algae, limpets, barnacles, anemones and mussels lived in delicate, dynamic balance. But when he removed the starfish and tossed them into the ocean, that balance collapsed and one kind of mussel took over.

Dr. Paine coined a term to describe the starfish’s outsize influence: keystone species. Keystone species have since been identified in forests, in grasslands, in the ocean and even in the human gut. The concept has become one of ecology’s guiding theoretical principles, and it has had a profound impact, inspiring, among other things, the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone, where they help control elk that can otherwise overgraze aspen and willow trees.

If Dr. Paine, who passed away in June, had been a physicist, chemist or cell biologist, such a fundamental, broadly applicable and hugely influential paradigm would probably have put him in contention for a Nobel Prize. But Paine was an ecologist, so he had no shot at the prestige, power and wealth that the Nobels bestow. The same can be said for the world’s top geologists, oceanographers, meteorologists, climatologists, crop scientists, botanists, entomologists and practitioners of many other fields.

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Tuesday expressed doubt that President Rodrigo Duterte will meet his deadline to solve the problem of illegal drugs in 12 months.

In a post on his social media account, Pangilinan cited a local newspaper report in July, which said that over 4,000 drug addicts and pushers surrendered in Davao City as a result of the government’s anti-drug program dubbed Oplan Tokhang.

“If the Davao City anti illegal drugs campaign did not succeed in stamping out and eliminating pushers and addicts in Davao City under President Duterte's 24 year stint as Mayor, what makes us think that the nationwide campaign against illegal drugs will succeed in 6 months (extended to another 6 months)?” Pangilinan said.

“If a mailed fist policy against illegal drugs did not succeed in eliminating the drug menace in a smaller area (one city) over a longer period of time (24 years), why will it succeed in a larger area (the entire country of over 100 cities and over 1000 municipalities) in a shorter period of time (3 to 6 to 12 months)?” the senator added.

Last month, Duterte said he needs an extension of another six months on his self-imposed deadline of three to six months to solve the crime and drugs problem in the Philippines.

CCTV footage showed the man throwing the three-year-old into the water in Mexico.

A man identified as Jose David N. throws his stepdaughter into a hotel swimming pool in Morelia, Mexico. He has been jailed for 100 years for drowning the 3-year-old.

A man who was filmed repeatedly throwing his 3-year-old step-daughter into a swimming pool, causing her to drown, has been jailed for 100 years.

Surveillance footage showed the man, identified only as Jose David N., throwing the small child into the water at a hotel in the city of Morelia, in Michoacan, Mexico, in August 2015.

She is seen battling to keep herself afloat, while her step-father stands watching at the side of the pool doing nothing. At times, he holds her underwater and teases her by throwing a float into the water, just out of her reach.

The incident took place on August 12, 2015, while the little girl’s mother was sleeping in their hotel room. The mother claims she found her daughter lifeless in front of the television, and had no idea she had been murdered until she saw the CCTV footage.

Other swimmers can be seen on surveillance, but they do nothing to intervene or help.

Jose David N. stayed silent throughout his murder trial and did not testify. Prosecutors had recommended a prison sentence of up to 40 years but a judge made his punishment more severe after reviewing the footage.
