Another food scandal has been uncovered in China.

A group of some 50 factories have been found to be manufacturing artificial sauces and flavourings, some with illegal ingredients, in the Chinese city of Tianjin, the Beijing News reports.

The investigative report revealed that the products were being falsely labelled as popular brands such as Nestlé, Knorr and Lee Kum Kee.

It appears that one of the Nestlé products they were counterfeiting is Maggi seasoning sauce, commonly found in Asian supermarkets.

Knorr is owned by Unilever, and makes chicken cubes and condiments; Lee Kum Kee is a well-known Hong Kong brand famous for its oyster sauces.

President Duterte was just letting off steam when he threatened to ignore the Constitution and declare martial law, frustrated that despite his brutal war on drugs, the menace appeared to be continuing, according to Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is gaining headway in its investigation into unexplained killings or what it calls death under inquiry (DUI) believed to be mostly drug-related.

PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa made the observation as he revealed arrests and the filing of charges against several individuals linked to killings of drug offenders.

“We are gaining some headway towards solving cases of DUI. There were about 4,000 (killings) and out of that only 100 plus were drug-related cases, meaning we have almost 3,000 that were not drug related,” Dela Rosa said.

“We have concluded investigation of around 800, which we resolved, nalaman kung sino ang (identified) suspects, filed charges of about 800 and arrested and jailed around 500 suspects… by and large or meaning, di tulugan ng kapulisan kasi (the police are not sleeping on the job because) 800 cases have been resolved out of the 3,000 DUI. Nagtatrabaho po kami (We’re doing our job),” Dela Rosa added.

MANILA, Philippines – For the first time since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed power, militant groups will feature, and burn, a monstrous effigy said to embody the "authoritarian tendencies" of the new leader.

The effigy, which illustrates the thorny issues that increasingly test the endurance of the alliance between the Duterte administration and the Left, will be the centerpiece of the groups' parade marking International Human Rights Day on Saturday, December 10.

Measuring 12 feet high and 30 feet long, the effigy bears elements that symbolize, among others, the growing human rights concerns of local advocates and the international community, spurred by the rising number of deaths in the government's war on drugs.

"The effigy depicts the political rehabilitation of the Marcoses and continuing state fascism, including extrajudicial killings, the non-release of political prisoners, and continuing military operations,” militant rights group Karapatan said.

The effigy features the head of dictator Ferdinand Marcos attached to a skeleton to symbolize the “resurrection and rehabilitation of the Marcoses” under the Duterte administration, according to artist Luigi Almuena, spokesperson of UgatLahi, which created the centerpiece of Saturday’s protest.

This is in reference to the dictator's burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani which Duterte had allowed in fulfillment of a campaign promise to the Marcoses.

LGU Philippines / Philippines VP vows to take on Duterte after cabinet exit

reuters - Show Posts - hubag bohol

MANILA (Reuters) - Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo resigned from the cabinet on Monday but vowed to lead the opposition and challenge the policies of President Rodrigo Duterte, including his deadly war on drugs and moves to reinstate the death penalty.

Robredo, who will remain vice president, had clashed frequently with Duterte and decided to resign from her ministerial role after being instructed via a text message to stay away from his cabinet meetings.

She was elected vice president in May in a separate contest and was not Duterte's running mate.

Robredo renewed her warning of a plot taking shape to remove her from the number two post and said the instruction from Duterte was tantamount to being sacked.

"If you are not being allowed to attend cabinet meetings anymore, what does that mean?" she said at a news conference.

"I will be an opposition leader. I will oppose policies that will be detrimental to the people."

Those includes the death penalty, lowering the age of criminal liability and alleged extrajudicial killings as part of the crackdown on drugs, which has killed more than 2,000 people.

Duterte accepted Robredo's resignation as housing secretary "with a heavy heart", his spokesman Ernesto Abella said.

Robredo, 52, a former lawyer and social activist, won the vice presidential election in May by a narrow margin, defeating Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the son and namesake of the late dictator overthrown in a 1986 revolt.

Marcos, better known by his nickname "Bongbong", has appealed to a tribunal of the Supreme Court for a recount, which Robredo said she was confident of winning.

Robredo did not give details of the alleged plot to "steal" the vice presidency, but said Marcos accompanying Duterte on an official visit to China in October was telling.

"In China, the president took Bongbong Marcos and even introduced him as the vice president," she said.

LONDON — In 1920, The Dearborn Independent, a newspaper owned by the industrialist Henry Ford, published a series of articles about a global Jewish conspiracy based on the “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion,” a forged document with origins in czarist Russia. Dozens of other newspapers published the forgery as news.

In 1924, four days before a general election, The Daily Mail in Britain published the fake “Zinoviev letter,” a supposed directive from Moscow to British Communists to mobilize “sympathetic forces” in the Labour Party; Labour lost the election by a landslide.

In the 1960s, the F.B.I. under J. Edgar Hoover orchestrated a smear campaign against the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Besides planting stories in the press, the F.B.I. forged a letter threatening to expose him as a degenerate and seemingly proposing his suicide.

In 1987, 96 soccer fans, supporters of Liverpool Football Club, died at Hillsborough football ground, in Sheffield, England, crushed to death after being forced into overcrowded caged “pens.” British newspapers, fed lies by the police, wrote that drunken fans were responsible for the disaster.

In 2003, in the run-up to the Iraq war, articles about Saddam Hussein’s nonexistent weapons of mass destruction filled newspaper pages across the world.

LGU Philippines / Duterte spanking female cops ‘alarming’
« on: November 29, 2016, 01:21:13 AM »
By: Yuji Vincent Gonzales - Reporter / @YGonzalesINQ / 04:51 PM November 28, 2016

Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Monday condemned as “alarming” the remark of President Rodrigo Duterte about how he would playfully spank the rear of his female security staff, saying it contributes to a prevalent culture of misogyny, sexism, and rape.

“This quotation is alarming on so many levels, even as the Palace spokespersons will explain this, as they have done in the past, that this is a harmless joke,” Hontiveros said in a speech during the Advocacy Fair Event at Vista Mall Taguig, which coincided with the international observance for the elimination of violence against women and children.

“And I feel this personally not because we have some PNP women personnel here with us, but because I’m a PNP widow myself… If we were to review the country’s anti-sexual harassment law, an incident such as this can… An ordinary workplace would most probably trigger the filing of sex harassment charge against the person,” she added.

In a speech before fellow San Beda Law graduates, Duterte on Saturday admitted playfully spanking the bottoms of policewomen in Malacañang if he is ill-tempered, adding that too many prohibitions in modern times spoil the fun.

World Daily News / 5 Filipinos missing after fishing near disputed shoal

Published November 28, 2016

MANILA, Philippines –  Philippine coast guard officials say they've launched a search for five Filipinos who failed to return after fishing in the disputed Scarborough Shoal in bad weather off the country's northwest.

Coast guard spokesman Armand Balilo said Monday the fishermen left the shoal due to an approaching typhoon last week and have not been heard from. He said boats and ships passing in the area have been alerted.

Balilo said the Philippine coast guard plans to coordinate its search with its Chinese counterpart in the Scarborough area.

China seized the shoal in 2012 after a maritime standoff with Philippines. Chinese coast guard ships have been blocking Filipino fishermen from the shoal but were allowed back after Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte discussed the territorial rift with Chinese President Xi Jinping last month.

The burial of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos is inconsistent to President Rodrigo Duterte’s fight against graft and corruption.

Former Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo, through the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL), on Monday asked the high court to reconsider its Nov. 8 decision dismissing the petitions against Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).

In a motion for reconsideration, Ocampo said Duterte’s action violated Article II, Section 27 of the 1987 Constitution which requires the State to take positive and effective measures against graft and corruption.

As proof, NUPL said the Supreme Court itself on several instances, including the Sandiganbayan vs. Republic case, has forfeited $638-million in favor of the government.

“Thus, allowing Marcos the Dictator who has already been judged by the Filipino people in 1986 and even the Supreme Court as a plunderer in many cases to be interred at the LNMB on the mere reason that he, like the others, is listed as qualified in AFP Regulation G 161-375, disregards and violates not only the public purpose standard under Proclamation 86 (S 1954) but is a direct contravention and a violation of said provision of the Constitution,” the motion for reconsideration stated.
