The first Greek fraternity in the Philippines is the University of the Philippines' Upsilon Sigma Phi (established in 1918). It does not have any branches outside the UP system. Among its alumni are the preserved ex-President Ferdinand E. Marcos and his arch-nemesis, the late Senator Benigno 'Ninoy Forever' Aquino. The first sorority with a Greek name is Sigma Delta Phi, also at UP and sister sorority of Upsilon Sigma Phi, established in 1938. (Partly contributed by Butch Bandong.)

The Top 5 War Movies Of All Time

Over the past few decades, a number of amazing war movies have hit the theaters. Although there are many war movies that have done an excellent job of portraying the conflict and the reality of the situation at hand, there are five that rank at the top of the list.

Released in 1986 and directed by Oliver Stone, Platoon is still considered by many to be the best war movie ever made. Starring Charlie Sheen and the then-little-known actor Johnny Depp, Platoon reached a depth of realism that many could not fully understand unless they had actually been in the military or experienced the Vietnam War the movie depicted.

Apocalypse Now

Also taking place during the Vietnam War, Apocalypse Now presents a unique and magnificent story with finely crafted characters. Released in 1979 and directed by Francis Ford Coppolla, the film is not only a great war story but is also considered by many to represent the dark side of the human psyche. Starring Martin Sheen, Harrison Ford, Marlon Brando, and Robert Duvall, the movie certainly enjoys a cast that is to be admired.

Saving Private Ryan

Taking place during WWII, Saving Private Ryan presents a unique story during one of the country's most trying times. The special effects and graphic ealism of the movie are truly amazing. In addition, it offers an excellent cast of actors, including Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and even Vin Diesel. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film achieved critical acclaim by receiving Academy Awards for Best Sound, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Director. It was also nominated for six other Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

We Were Soldiers

Based on a novel written by a Lieutenant General and a reporter that were at the Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam, We Were Soldiers takes a personal look into the lives of real soldiers and events that took place at the time. Directed by Randall Wallace and starring Mel Gibson, it is one of only a few war movies to depict the feelings, actions, and thoughts of soldiers on both sides of the war.

Glory, which takes place during the American Civil War, stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman. The movie, which was released in 1989, tells the riveting and heart wrenching story of coming of age of African American soldiers as they are placed on the battlefield for the first time.

Each of these movies stirs the emotions and puts the viewer on the battlefield, showing the emotional, mental, and physical toll the soldiers undergo during wartime and when on the battlefield. They also delve into the politics behind these wars, including depicting the roles of commanders and politicians that are no where near the actual battlefield.

Metallica Reviewed

Metallica was formed in 1981 in California by Lars Ulrich (drums) and James Hetfield (guitar/vocals). They recorded their first demo, No Life Til' Leather, with Lloyd Grand (guitar), who was replaced in January 1982 by Dave Mustaine. At the end of 1982, Cliff Burton (bass) joined the band. Dave Mustaine departed to form Megadeth and was replaced by Kirk Hammett.

Metallica's first album Kill 'em All in 1983 is a testament to the real beginnings of the sub genre of heavy metal music known as thrash. If you look back on the thrash scene that was going on then, there might have been a couple bands that were more definitive of thrash music such as DRI and Megadeth. However, the album everyone remembers most is Kill 'em All.

After the success of Kill 'em All, Metallica came back in 1984 with Ride the Lightning. I've always found this to be another great album with flat-out better production than the first album. It leans a bit more on traditional heavy metal instead of thrash. I personally prefer more thrash, but to each his own.

The next time Metallica came back with an album it was Master of Puppets in 1986 and is widely considered to be among the greatest metal albums ever released. After that they had ...And Justice for All in 1988 which is one of their most polished albums ever technique-wise.

With the commercial success of their next album in 1991 (Metallica) also known as the Black album, Metallica started to get further and further away from their original metal sound. Their popularity has gradually declined since then. However their early work including their first 5 or 6 albums will be remembered as some of the greatest metal albums ever released.

Their albums include Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Garage Days Re-Revisited [EP], ...And Justice for All, Metallica, Load, Reload and St. Anger.

Hair Loss Solution: Try Aromatherapy

Our ancestors did not have the benefit of today's scientifically researched drugs, but they often found natural remedies that worked just as well. Herbal remedies have been used for centuries to treat everything from premenstrual syndrome to high blood pressure. Men experiencing the first signs of baldness often looked to natural cures as well, and some of the herbal remedies have surprising results.

A group of dermatologists in Scotland tested an herbal remedy with great success, helping over 40% of their patients with a mixture of essential oils containing cedarwood, lavender, rosemary and thyme. In this double blind study, the group using the essential oils showed improvement in 40 percent of the subjects, while only 15% of the control group noted an improvement.

So, would you be interested in trying out aromatherapy as a hair loss solution? If you'd like to experiment with this, mix three drops each of lavender and rosemary oil with two drops each of cedarwood and thyme oils. Add this mixture to 4 teaspoons of grapeseed oil and one-quarter teaspoon of jojoba oil. Rub the mixture into your scalp for two minutes nightly, then use a warm towel to wrap your head.

If you're not experiencing baldness yet, but your hair doesn't look healthy, you may want to try a mixture of lavender and bay essential oils to stimulate blood flow to the scalp and help circulation to the area. About six drops of each oil should be added to ½ cup of a good carrier oil, like almond or sesame oil. Warm the mixture slightly and rub into the scalp. After letting the mixture penetrate the scalp for 20 minutes, shampoo with your normal shampoo. For additional benefit, you may want to add up to 4 drops of bay oil to your normal shampoo.

Of course, you won't see a whole new head of hair after just one or two treatments. However, repeated use will most likely provide you with better looking, fuller hair. You'll also experience the positive benefits of aromatherapy and scalp massage as well, feeling more relaxed and ready to face the day. Aromatherapy may just be the hair loss solution that you are looking for!

The Truth About Men and Women:
Has Any One of The 23 Differences Below
Affected Your Life?

Men and women behave differently in large part because their brains and senses are physically different.
Women usually have more and thicker connections between the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
Women, because of their superior cross-hemispheric wiring, tend to be good at multi-tasking. Unlike men, they can easily talk at the same time they listen, while also doing things with their hands.
Men usually need to do one thing at a time; talking to a man while he performs an action usually throws him off. He usually has difficulty hearing at the same time he's talking.
When a woman hears words, many different parts of the female brain activate. Words easily trigger women's emotions.
When a man hears words, usually only his left hemisphere activates. Words usually trigger much less emotional response within men than women.
Women are better at hearing high-pitched tones than men. Men tend to miss subtle vocal clues to a speaker's emotions.
Men's brains tend to categorize and file away stressful thoughts. Women's brains do not; stressful thoughts will often echo and ricochet in their minds until relieved by talking about them to someone else.
For a woman, the act of talking about a problem will tend to help reduce the stress associated with the problem. Often they want, literally, just to talk and be heard; they aren't seeking solutions from the listener.
When men hear others' problems-- particularly women's problems--, they tend to believe they are being asked for solutions.
Men tend to do their problem-solving internally, rather than verbalizing the process.
Communicating to men, women gain credibility and authority by stating the results of their thought-processes-- their conclusions and decisions--, rather than describing the many steps leading up to those results.
Men can interest and emotionally involve women by describing not only their conclusions and decisions, but the thoughts and feelings leading up to those conclusions and  decisions.
Men tend to use and enjoy language that is literal and direct, specifying those things that are wanted or unwanted.
Women tend to use and enjoy language that is figurative and indirect, talking about one thing in terms of another and presenting suggestions in the form of questions or asides.
Men have a specific brain location dedicated to finding direction; women have specific brain locations for speech.
Women have superior peripheral vision, and can consciously see things from the corners of their eyes; men cannot, and usually must look directly at things to consciously see and evaluate them.
Men detect salty and bitter tastes easily; women detect sweet tastes easily.
A man's skin is far less sensitive than a woman's.
After sex, a man's senses register nuance and detail more easily, and he can often feel and express emotion more easily.
Women tend to test slightly higher in general intelligence than men.
Women frequently use language figuratively, attempting to accurately express the intensity of their emotions; men tend to use less language, and use it with direct reference to things that can be seen and touched.
Men usually prefer information presented concisely, accurately, and with a specific direction or conclusion; women often prefer open-ended dialogues that suggest possibilities
