Pacquiao’s Achilles’ heel? Pastors swarming around boxing icon for money, perks—sources

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines—Protestant pastors have been coming in droves to Manny Pacquiao’s mansion here. And their number is increasing each day.
One day, seven of them coming from different religious factions arrived. The next day, the number rose to 10. They take a bath, sleep and eat right there as if it is their own house.
They are forming to be the Achilles’ heel of the boxing icon. They follow him wherever he goes—from here to Baguio and even the United States.
They started stalking the Filipino ring idol after the Pacquiao-Marquez fight in November 2011, when the world’s eight-division boxing champ decided to change his lifestyle and began holding daily Bible study with his family, friends and supporters.
But there were just two or three pastors then attending the Bible study.
A source close to Pacquiao told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that these pastors have been abusing the man’s kindness and generosity.
“They are making our boxing idol a milking cow. The real Manny Pacquiao doesn’t know how to say no. But if they are real disciples of God, they should be ashamed of what they are doing,” the source said.
The source said that one pastor was given an iPad but seemingly not contented with what he got, he still asked for a new service vehicle. “Now, he is sporting a brand-new pickup, courtesy of Manny Pacquiao,” the source added.
Another pastor asked for cash, while still another abandoned his flock somewhere in northern Luzon just to be with the boxer-lawmaker.
Another pastor joined the Pacquiao team during the training camp in Los Angeles. “He asked for 36 tickets in the Pacquiao-Bradley fight. The guy got what he wanted,” the source said.
“I was the one so ashamed when he asked Manny Pacquiao to get eight hotel rooms for his family in the US,” the source added.
According to the Inquirer source, it was the first time that someone asked for 36 tickets and eight hotel rooms from the boxing champ.
When Pacquiao and his entourage arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on June 16, this same pastor was seen brandishing a big Louis Vuitton bag.
“Now, there are so many pastors. I want to be a pastor, too,” the source stated.
Another source has admitted being convinced that religion is the opium of the masses.  “And the preachers are the pushers,” the source added. “Before, we were expecting that these pastors would help or guide Manny Pacquiao towards the path of salvation. We didn’t expect that they would abuse his kindness and generosity.”
The poor, the source claimed, need Pacquiao’s help more than the pastors do. “The poor people are more deserving of such blessings. I hope, one day, they will realize their mistake and that they will stop asking any kind of favor from Pacquiao.”
The sources said the preachers have been planning a “grand religious concert” for Pacquiao at the Araneta coliseum on June 28.
“They assigned Manny Pacquaio as the main speaker. From what I’ve heard during the discussion, they wanted Pacquiao to settle all the bills before the staging of the concert,” the source disclosed.
However, according to the source, Pacquiao insisted that all the bills for the venue rental, catering, transportation, etc., be settled only after the concert.
“Of course, it can be read between the lines that someone is bound to make a killing out of this concert. This is a multimillion-peso event,” the source said.
The same sources further revealed that a rift has developed among Pacquiao’s political backers, boxing circle and the pastors.
“Manny Pacquiao tends to listen to these pastors more than to his advisers and friends from political and boxing circles,” one of the sources claimed.
Those from political and boxing circles, the source said, believed that Pacquiao’s involvement in religious activities has hurt his boxing career.
Before, the source said, the distractions in Pacquiao’s life were his gambling and drinking buddies. “Now, the distractions are the pastors and they are far more costly than the previous ones.”
“The old Manny Pacquiao is gone. Atop the ring, he is no longer as ferocious as before. Unless he learns to temper his newfound passion and obsession, we would no longer see knock-out victories in his future fights,” the source averred.

Family & Parenting / UAE Islamic love guru urges women to enjoy sex
« on: February 14, 2012, 09:02:11 PM »
From yahoo...

Emirati love guru Widad Lootah is not your typical marriage counsellor. She is an ultra-conservative Muslim who wears the full veil and talks a lot about sex, often quoting the Muslim holy book the Koran.
On the eve of Valentine's day, Lootah is calling on Muslim and Arab women everywhere to "embrace love and love making."
"Don't shy away from it, don't feel ashamed by it. Enjoy it, you're supposed to," she said in an interview with AFP, adding that she is trying to break common misconceptions that sex in Islam is only about conceiving children.
"It's also about having fun," she said.
Dressed in a shroud of black revealing only her eyes -- a choice, she says, that allows her to emulate the Muslim prophet's wives -- Lootah was frank and explicit about the importance Islam places on a healthy sex life.
"It's at the core" of a happy marriage, she said.
Lootah noted that her 11 years as a marriage counsellor at the Dubai courthouse made her realise that "what happens (or doesn't happen) in bed" is the main source of marital problems in the United Arab Emirates.
Public, and in many cases private, discussions about sex are still taboo in much of the conservative Muslim world, a reality she says contradicts Islam's approach to the subject.
There are only two simple rules for sex in Islam: you must be married "and anal sex is strictly forbidden," Lootah said.
"Everything else, including all sexually intimate acts below the belly button, is allowed. Feel each other, touch each other, kiss each other all over... it's OK."
The problem is, "there is so much shame and disgrace" associated with the enjoyment of sex in the Arab world.
Lootah is an adamant believer in bringing the discussion of sex out into the open, although at times doing so has proven it can be a risky business.
In 2009, she published the much-debated Muslim sex guide "Top Secret: Sexual Guidance for Married Couples."
Her book, and her comments in interviews on the subject, initially triggered a slew of insults, condemnation and even threats against her life.
"They called me all sorts of things: crazy, vile, immoral, criminal," she said. "Some even called me a traitor and spy for Israel and America."
Today, Lootah is probably the UAE's most prominent marriage counsellor, known by her clients as "Mama Widad."
Lootah has also vigorously lobbied her home government to introduce sexual education in Emirati schools.
For older teens, "it's very important that we educate them, both males and females, about sex... we have to prepare them psychologically and emotionally for it, and we have to teach them about the act itself."
But first, we must "educate the teachers so they can educate the students," said Lootah, adding that such education would also help protect young children from sexual predators.
They have to be "taught what form of adult-child interaction is appropriate and what's not," she said. "We need to teach them so they know to recognise the danger when it's there."
She said the taboos surrounding sex have also contributed to high divorce rates in the Emirates and to generally unhappy marriages.
In about a month, Lootah plans to submit her second book, "Top Secret Volume Two," to the government censors, and in traditional Lootah style, its pages will contain a lot of sex talk.
But this time, the topic of discussion is forbidden sex under Islam.
"It's about homosexual and lesbian relations and their effect on the institution of marriage," said Lootah, adding that she had to tread carefully given the sensitivity of the subject and intense emotions it stirs in the Muslim world.
When asked why she has taken on the cause of love and sex in Islam, Lootah argued that it was an issue of "women's rights."
"I can't fix everything... but I can try and fix the role of women (in sex and marriage) in the Arab world."
As for her opinion of Valentine's day, she says Islam forbids the celebration of non-Muslim holidays.
"But if you consider Valentine's day as a mere reminder to show one's love to another, then why not? I don't object to it," she said. But "if that's the case, then every day should be Valentine's day."
Any last words of advice?
"Experience love... even before marriage, that's OK. But don't do anything forbidden by Islam.

Tira-Pasagad | Saksak-Sinagol / Snake Massage...just try...
« on: January 30, 2012, 06:13:24 PM »
An Israeli health and beauty spa is offering a creepy new service for its customers - Snake Massage. For just $80 you can have large slithering reptiles such as California and Florida king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes, wriggle down your back and up your spine and across your face. If you dont freak out, it can be soothing experience, as the spa owner Ada Barak will tell you.

Barak figured out several years ago that heavy king and corn snakes produce a relaxing kneading sensation. She says that once people get over any initial misgivings, they find physical contact with the snakes to be stress relieving.
"Some people said that holding the snakes made them feel better, relaxed," she said "One old lady said it was soothing, like a cold compress."...

Tira-Pasagad | Saksak-Sinagol / Mut'ah: Temporary marriage.
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:50:39 PM »
Nikāḥ al-Mut‘ah, Nikah el Mut'a (Arabic: نكاح المتعة‎, also Nikah Mut‘ah [literally, "marriage of pleasure"), or sighah, is a fixed-time marriage which, according to the  Usuli Shia schools of Shari‘a (Islamic law),  is a marriage with a preset duration, after which the marriage is automatically dissolved. It has many conditions that can be considered as pre-requisite, similar to that of permanent marriage. It is the second form of Islamic marriage (Nikah). However, it is regarded as haram (prohibited) by Sunnis. This is a highly controversial fiqh topic; Sunnis and Shi‘a hold diametrically opposed views on its permissibility.

Bohol Latest News / Aumentado urges DPWH: Endorse Bohol-Cebu bridge.
« on: January 24, 2012, 10:28:53 PM »
COPY FROM SUNDAY POST...

By JUNE S. BLANCO

BARRING any hitches, travel to Cebu from Bohol will just be a land trip. This after Rep. Erico Aumentado (2nd District,Bohol) urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to endorse his proposal for technical assistance for the project mulled to connect Bohol and Cebu by a bridge to the Korean International Cooperation Agency (Koica). Koica provides official development assistance (ODA) from its government funds kept at the Korea Export-Import Bank (Eximbank) called the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF). In his letter to Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson dated Jan. 13, Aumentado said the former’s predecessor had endorsed the same to the Socio-Economic Secretary and to the Koica deputy resident representative.

The solon however wants to follow up the project. Considering the changes in the leadership in the Cabinet, he wants to start afresh, hence the Singson letter. The distance between Getafe in Bohol and Cordova in Cebu, he told Singson, is only 17.5 kilometers. The two towns will be the anchors of the proposed bridge. Except for the Olango and Hilotongan Channels, he said, the rest separating the two provinces are just islands, shoals and shallow seawaters. This augurs well for a simple design and easy construction of the bridge, he said. He added that the Provincial Development Council (PDC) that he used to chair already endorsed the project through a reiterative resolution in 2009. The original resolution already had endorsement of the Central Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC 7) chaired by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to the DPWH, requesting for its own endorsement of the project to the EDCF. The endorsements already contained the project profile.

The technical assistance sought is for a grant for the conduct of a feasibility study and detailed engineering design (DED) for the future Bohol-Cebu Multi-Access Friendship Bridge. It is expected to accelerate the dispersal of industries from Cebu to Bohol, especially the northeast corridor. Due to luxury of space in Bohol that is now prohibitive in urban Cebu, the connection can be a solution to the latter’s industrial congestion as well as squatter problem. Aumentado also said the bridge can accelerate the symbiotic exchange of excess water from Bohol after satisfying its domestic needs while Cebu can send power, expected to be a surplus by 2015 because of the development of coal-fired plants now. Bohol is limited to developing hydroelectric power as other forms can be detrimental to its environment which is the anchor of its eco-cultural and adventure tourism. These commodities can be transported through cables and pipelines astride the bridge, along with fiber optics from Cebu for Bohol’s information and communication technology program.

The solon has initiated back-channel talks with the proper Korean government authorities and expressed confidence that the ODA grant requested will be favourably considered “in the light of the strong relations of Korea and the Philippines when the two countries fought side by side with United Nations Forces during the Korean Peninsular War. The bridge can be constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Law. This early, Aumentado said a group of Chinese financiers as well as the International Bridge Construction Company of California have expressed interest in undertaking the project either through BOT or the Build-Operate-Own scheme which means the Philippine government will not spend a single centavo for it. Aside from endorsement to Koica and the Eximbank-EDCF, the solon also asked Singson to similarly endorse it to the NEDA Investments Coordinating Committee Technical Board (ICC-TB) chaired by Deputy Director General Rolando Tungpalan and other appropriate authorities in order to complete the process. He furnished Country Director Man Hwan Park of Korea Eximbank in Makati, Koica Philippines Resident Representative Kim Jinoh, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and Mayors Adelino Sitoy of Cordova and Cary Camacho of Getafe with copies of his letter to Singson.

Kobe Bryant is out on the streets because he has officially been kicked out of every property he owns.

Bryant's wife, Vanessa, was a big winner in the divorce settlement. Not only did she get $75 million, she got all 3 Newport Beach properties… Their marital house, her mother's house and the new house that Kobe was supposedly moving into.

Sure, Kobe isn't homeless… after all he still gets to keep half of his earnings from the past decade.

But as for Vanessa, I suppose it does pay to stay in a relationship "for the kids"
