Team Inabanga’s cage supremacy has proved once again that they are Bohol’s 2nd District’s kings of the hardcourt.
It routed Ubay 109-94 in the just-concluded 2009 Second District Congressional Basketball Tournament held at the Trinidad Gymnasium as a highlight of the latter’s 54th Parochial Fiesta in honor of their patron, Saint Isidore, the Farmer.
Spectators and supporters wearing white t-shirts and waving white balloons who came all the way from Inabanga jampacked the Trinidad gym to witness the heart-stopping most awaited finale.
The marching tunes played by the Inabanga drum and bugle corps added flavor and enlivened the spirits of the players and spectators.
Among the participants, Inabanga is the farthest municipality from Trinidad that actively participated in the congressional basketball tourney. It brought home a giant trophy and P50,000 cash to show for its court mastery.
Coach Nick Cabañero said defense, unity, teamwork and conditioning of the players were the team’s winning assets.
After the game, the team celebrated at the Jumamoy residence where the players expressed gratitude to sports buff and team manager himself, Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy, Vice Mayor Wenceslao Lao and all Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members for their undeniably all-out support.
They also extend their heartfelt gratitude to Provincial Board Member Josephine Socorro Jumamoy for her encouragement and support that contributed a lot to the team’s success.
To note, the Municipio Inabanga basketball team also emerged as champion in the recently-concluded tourney in Calape town where they bagged a trophy and P20,000 cash for their feat. - Sunday Post
