Even more dramatic than fiction, this Hubble image captures the chaotic activity atop a three-light-year-tall pillar of gas and dust that is being eaten away by the brilliant light from nearby bright stars.
3 light years! make that 9,500,000,000,000 kilometers (1 light year) x 3, or twenty-eight trillion, five hundred billion kilometers! (is that correct, engineer pikoy and doc lorenz?) i shudder at the height and my own insignificance.
