The picture below is Empress Dowager Cixi wearing a Qipao. Back then, what people wore was pretty much of a sign of their social status. We can get a rough idea of that from what the most powerful woman at that time was wearing.  -- http://asianshape.com/

Qipao is now worn only during very special festivals and festivities ... others will wear it kung mag-usher sila og mga guests para sa mga programs diri ... indeed, only sexy women can wear it. too bad for me ::)
