This is how my mom arranges her orchids at home... 

What is the significance of egg shell, may I ask?

Decoration lang na, Father. My Lola Nating used to grow a lot of orchids sa among balay sa Valencia sa una. She would place empty egg shells on her orchids , and my own mommy did the same when she grew her own orchids in our house in new jersey. I would say to my mom, "Mommy, maka hinumdum ko ni Lola Nating whenever i see the egg shells on the orchids..."

I think it is a Chinese arrangement style in putting egg shells on orchids.
They put eggs because the egg has a high source of avidin, which is used as fertilizer for the orchids.

I know, Tita Sol. This thread also reminds me of Virginia, si Ms. Orchids. She loved orchids very much , too.
