Christian pilgrims baptise themselves in the waters of the Jordan River on September 5, 2009 at Yardenit in northern Israel. An estimated 100,000 Christian worshippers make their pilgrimage to the Holy Land each year, and for many of them the highlight of their visit is being baptized in the same Jordan River where, according to Christian tradition, Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist.
