WITNESS THE HISTORIC TRANSFORMATION OF KALIBO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT!

Press Release: Today will be another pivotal moment in our Aviation sector, as Department of Transportation (DOTr) Sec. Art Tugade, along with Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Captain Jim Sydiongco, leads the inaugural ceremony for the completed development projects of the Kalibo International Airport (KIA)—the gateway to the majestic Boracay island!

Just recently, Secretary Tugade gave us a preview of the what was done with this airport, considered as one of the busiest in the country pre-pandemic.

“Kung noon ay siksikan ang mga pasahero dahil sa kakulangan ng espasyo ng passenger terminal building ng Kalibo International Airport, ngayon ay mas malawak at pinaganda na ito dahil natapos na ang expansion and extension works sa paliparan.

“Kung dati ay 1,584 sq. meters lamang ang area ng International Terminal Building ng KIA, ngayon ay 2,633 sq. meters na ito.

“Mas lumaki na ang covered exterior lobby para sa mga pasaherong pumipila sa labas ng terminal. Mas pinalaki na rin ang pre-departure area, upang komportableng makaupo ang mga kababayan nating nag-aabang ng kanilang flight. Mas malaki na rin ang space para sa Customs, Immigration at Pre-Screening ng mga pasahero. Mas pinalaki rin ang espasyo para sa airline check-in counters upang makatulong sa pag-cater sa mas maraming biyahero.”

In addition to this, as Sec. Tugade aims to provide employment opportunities to the people, he likewise announced that in the construction phase alone, the airport was able to generate jobs for our kababayans in Aklan.

“Nagbigay daan din ang airport development project sa KIA upang makapagbigay ng trabaho sa ating mga kababayan sa Aklan. Umabot na sa 236 na katao ang nabigyan ng trabaho habang, nasa construction phase ang airport.”

This is another development project completed, and a promise fulfilled anew.

And it will not just be the Filipino people who will get to experience a more comfortable and convenient travel experience they long deserve.

Because when the time comes, the World will also enjoy the splendor of Boracay, with a more pleasant and comfortable welcome at the much improved Kalibo International Airport!
