Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade landed in Calbayog, Samar today, 14 April 2021, to inspect the newly completed Calbayog Airport. 

Secretary Tugade made the visit prior to his scheduled arrival in Tagbilaran, Bohol for the Inauguration of Tagbilaran Port and the inspection of Maribojoc Port today.

“I will leave Calbayog on a happy note, I am very happy that the team was able to address the issues I have raised when I last visited this airport. This is now ready for inauguration”, Secretary Tugade said.

Among the completed airport projects are the Construction of New Passenger Terminal (PTB) with Shed, Expansion of Apron and New Taxiway, Widening of Runway, Runway Strip Grade Correction, Construction of RESA at Runway 35, Construction of VPA 1, Construction of Perimeter Fence and Security Fence, and the Construction of Drainage System.

Samar 1st District Representative Edgar Mary Sarmiento praised Secretary Tugade for the development they have seen in the airport.

“I cannot express any word, napakaganda. Maraming salamat, Secretary Tugade”. Congressman Sarmiento said.

Joining the Secretary are Chief of Staff and DOTr Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation Giovanni Lopez, Assistant Secretary for Aviation Jaime Melo, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago, Mr. Francis Cusi.

Also present are Airport Projects Team (APT) headed by Atty. Danjun Lucas, CAAP Region 8 Area manager Danilo Abareta, Calbayog Airport Manager Nonot Esquedra and other airport employees.
