It's Never Too Late - for SK folks (or Sobra Kwarenta)
« on: November 24, 2009, 05:31:02 PM »
Personal Blog.

On 26th and 27th of November 2009, I will take my board exams at Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. I am Macky Ferniz, age: 44, graduated BS Civil Engineering, October 1987 from the University of Bohol, 22 years from now.

To those who do not know, this explains my long silence at Tubag Bohol.

After graduation and being un-licensed, I worked as assistant to the resident Engineer at an Asian Development Bank funded project to renovate all buildings and infrastructures of Bilar Agricultural College (BAC). After two years the project was completed.

For the record, all structures survived without-a-scratch from the earthquake of 1989 at magnitude 5.7.

After the project, I became a “misfit of profession” doing sales, delivery, marketing, advertising & even laborer in various establishments of Tagbilaran City. In 1991, I went to Saudi Arabia as an OFW. This is with the help of my relatives who were already established in Saudi Arabia. That time was the height of Gulf War when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and then liberated by the US led coalition. We witnessed Scud Missiles vs. Patriot Missiles colliding in mid-air with huge explosions that rocked our villas almost every night.

Here in Saudi Arabia I spent almost quarter of a century, working in marketing & distribution company and continued being a “misfit of profession”. Since mathematics is more advanced in engineering than in any field of education, I was assigned in all math related jobs such as forecasting, estimating, costing, P&L, statistics…etc and now I managed the International Purchasing Department (import/export).

In September this year, I heard that Board Exams will be conducted in our locality under SPLBE program of PRC. Since then I was enticed of this great challenge to take the exams in foreign land after 22 years. With a very limited time, I started recalling engineering subjects such as concrete/steel design, strength of materials, hydraulics/design of dams/spillways, mechanics (physics), math/analytic geometry, calculus (differential & integral)…etc. After 22 years, engineering is now out of my mind (just a dot in my gray matter) except for mathematics. Somehow, it is true that long-term memory is mysterious to the extent that I am able to visualize my UB instructors writing the formulas at the black board.

Having limited capability Vs. huge challenge, I considered this endeavor as an adventure, expedition & a quest.

However, besides my family, from your friendship I draw the confidence, strength, hope, inspiration and I have nothing, but only this.

Herewith my sincere thanks to your prayers and best wishes for my success.

Macky Ferniz

Good news: After the exams, I can rock n roll at Tubag Bohol.

My prayer goes to you for your success in this shift of gear in your career.  I think we're about the same age, give or take a few months, and I certainly believe that we can always start afresh at any point in life with God's grace.

Do count on my prayers, Bay Macky, whatever my prayers may be worth. Without challenge we all wither and die, that's why many retirees suddenly fall ill and never recover. While we're still rather quite far away from the age of retirement, we feel that being now at the age of youth (and at the same time the youth of age) we're ripe for some renewal, and thus I should say that you have one test ready-made for you. Good luck, my friend, and may the force be with you and, too, all the best wishes of Tubag Bohol netizens!

Today is always the first day of the rest of our life, Bay Ben. Yes, we can always begin anew anytime. Because of arthritis, Grandma Moses abandoned embroidery and started painting in her seventies. Coming to a decision he agonized over for decades, Tolstoy started out on a new life when he was 82.

Hi Macky,

Correct.  It's never too late to try reaching your dreams.  Kay nakatapos ka man sa Civil Enginering  (nga pwerting lisora) dili jud imposible nga makakuhag kag lisensya pagka Engineer.

Dearest Mr. Macky Ferniz,

Pleas know that you are in my prayers to perform in the best of your ability for these exams. I wish for you the fluidity in mind to recall the key concepts and to deliver in the best of your ability during the examination. May the Grace of God complement your understanding of the given subject matter.

I pray with you in the attainment of Victory.
Ask and it shall be given,
Knock and the door shall be opened for you.

I ask this in Jesus' Name.
Amen.

Warm regards,
A. Lorenzo Lucino Jr.

Hello Mack,

With all sincerity, I wish you success in passing this exam. However, regardless of the outcome still count all the blessings you have. You have tremendously pursued and established yourself in a different field, which I am sure you also excelled. I would not consider you a misfit but maybe this is your true professional calling.

Nevertheless, I wish you good luck on the exam. Pass or not...I'm sure you are great in what you do!

Take care

Mr. Ferniz, I thought about you today.

Move the mountains, sir.

For we are told by the Lord Jesus Christ, "Even if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, and say to the mountain 'move', and for sure, the mountain shall move."

Move the mountains, sir.

For we can do all things through HIM who strengthen us.
Praise be to THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Who is Salvation on High!
Glorify Him!

:D

My uncle, Engr. Alex Salvo, who scored 2nd highest in the National Philippine Engineering Boards, has recently moved to Saudi as a Mining Engineer there, after many years as a veteran Engineer in Cebu.

There is never a 'too late' story. If there is a will, there is a way.

My uncle, Dr. Rene Lucino, M.D, who is a trained General Internist/Gastroenterologist, is currently in the U.K.
Even after many years as a practicing physician there in the Philippines.

So, there is no 'too late' story.

Put your faith in God, and for sure he will guide your steps.
:)

Good Luck, Mr. Ferniz.

Cheers,
Lorenzo

PS. We are praying for you. :)

I raise my cup to you!

I myself received my Medical White Coat on the 15th of December (yesterday) with tearful reception and pensive attitude. It really is a beautiful feeling to see one's sacrifices produce a semblance of success. Thanks be to God.

With that said, please accept my warm regards from my family to yours.

Truly,
