MANILA, Philippines – A janitress of the Manila International Airport Authority received a P50,000 reward from the Federation of Filipino Chinese Associations Foundations Incorporated (FFCAFI) for returning the money she found at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
Manny Dy, the honorary president of FFCAFI, said the board of directors decided to reward 32-year-old Mary Jennifer Doroga for her exemplary honesty.
Doroga found a transparent plastic pouch containing foreign currencies amounting to an estimated P1.2 million last April 26.
Doroga immediately coordinated with airport officials and turned over the pouch to the lost and found section of the airport.
The janitress, who has been working at the airport for 7 years, cried upon receiving the cheque.
She said she intends to use the money for her family’s personal needs.
NAIA Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta and senior assistant general manager Vicente Guerzon were present when the group handed the reward money to Doroga.
The pouch containing the money remains in the custody of airport authorities because no one has claimed it until now. -- Story by Raoul Esperas
