AUSTRALIA

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says the Australian Government will contribute $10 million in aid, which will include $390,500 of emergency supplies previously announced by Ms Bishop on Saturday.

"I have approved a $10 million package of humanitarian assistance. This comprises the urgent deployment of an Australian medical assistance team - at a cost of about $1 million, $3 million to be deployed through Australian non-government organisations, $4 million to the United Nations flash appeal," she said.

"[We will also contribute] $1 million for additional food items and non-food items, which includes the funding already announced - so tarps, mosquito nets, water containers and the like, and $1 million to the Red Cross to assist in their disaster response efforts."

The Australian government is sending a self-sustained hospital complete with operating room, generators, water purifiers, doctors, surgeons, nurses and all. Furthermore, should there be worst medical cases, patients will be airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital as Darwin is only 4 hours away from the Philippines by plane. Australian armed forces already have standby planes and helicopters to assist Philippine Armed forces to scout remote areas for rescue operations.

Russia had sent two plane loads of humanitarian aid to typhoon-hit Philippines, the Emergency Situations Ministry said today.

Two Il-76 cargo planes had delivered medical supplies and medical personnel to the Philippines, deputy head of the ministry's crisis center Oleg Voronov told reporters.

The ministry also set up a hotline for relatives of Russian citizens trapped in the Philippines due to the super typhoon Haiyan, which hit the country Friday.

On Monday evening, the Pentagon announced it was dispatching the aircraft carrier George Washington and its accompanying cruisers and destroyers, including its fleet of helicopters and airplanes.

Another naval destroyer and a supply ship are also en route to the Philippines.

Taiwan has already dispatched two fully loaded C130 Hercules cargo planes carrying 15-tons of relief supplies from Hsinchu Air Force Base to Cebu.

Taiwanâ€™s Red Cross Society, DDM Social Welfare and Charity Foundation, the Fo Guang Shan Compassion Foundation, Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, Ling Jiou Mountain Buddhist Society and the Namchow Group were the groups that donated the goods for victims of Yolanda.

Taiwan sent about 24,000 items of instant rice, noodles and meat packages, blankets and tents. Taiwanese enterprises based in the Philippines also donated 200 tons of rice.

An appeal by UK charities to help Philippines typhoon victims has raised Â£13m ($20m) in its first 24 hours.

The storm hit the Philippines on Friday, killing more than 2,000 people, and the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) launched its appeal on Tuesday.

The DEC, which brings together 14 major UK charities, said the response had been "overwhelming".

The UK government has pledged to match donations up to a total of Â£5m, on top of Â£10m it has already agreed to give.

MANILA, Philippines - Japan announced that it will send 1,000 of its servicemen to join relief efforts for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in Visayas.

Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said that upon the order of Prime Minister Shizo Abe, 1,000 Japan Self-Defense Forces (SDF) will fly to typhoon-devastated areas soon.

The contingent is said to be the biggest SDF overseas mission the country has created.

"We are preparing for large-scale assistance in the transport of supplies, which is expected to be needed there," Onodera said in a Jiji Press report.

Japan's dispatch will include three warships, transport aircrafts as well as helicopters.

So far, the East Asian nation has sent 25 Japanese professionals to the Philippines to join a rapid response medical assistance team, according to a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

-Washington has committed $20 million six days after Super Typhoon Haiyan struck.

Its giant carrier, carrying 5,000 sailors who were diverted from shore leave in Hong Kong, has the ability to desalinate large volumes of water.

MANILA â€“ The Australian Government has increased its contribution to P1.2 billion (A$30 million) for the recovery efforts in areas ravaged by super typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) in the Philippines, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced.

An appeal by UK charities to help Philippines typhoon victims has raised Â£13m ($20m) in its first 24 hours.

The storm hit the Philippines on Friday, killing more than 2,000 people, and the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) launched its appeal on Tuesday.

The DEC, which brings together 14 major UK charities, said the response had been "overwhelming".

The UK government has pledged to match donations up to a total of Â£5m, on top of Â£10m it has already agreed to give.

The UK-chartered plane carrying emergency shelter kits arrived in Cebu overnight

Aid for the Philippines is also being readied at Oxfam's warehouse in Bicester, Oxfordshire

UK Prime Minister David Cameron has doubled the contribution for Yolanda victims to Â£50 million (over P3.5B), UK Ambassador to the Philippines Asif Ahmad tweeted Saturday afternoon.

He lamented the high toll of dead and the enormous damage, then requested silent prayer for "our brothers and sisters." China, which is locked in a territorial dispute with the Philippines, has promised $1.6 million in aid, mainly in tents and blankets, after widespread criticism of its initial modest response of a $100,000 government donation.

China said on Saturday it was ready to fulfill its aid pledges to the Philippines and help in the reconstruction of storm-ravaged Eastern Visayas.

Chinese Embassy spokesperson Zhang Hua said the aid would arrive soon.

â€œWe are currently focusing on the prompt delivery of the supplies we pledged to the Philippines, which are fully ready now in China. We are waiting for the go-signal from the Philippine side. Itâ€™s expected to arrive anytime soon,â€ Zhang said.

An Israeli Embassy statement said on Saturday the attending physician, Dr. Reuven Keidar, held Israel in his arms and offered the traditional Hebrew congratulations to the parents: â€œMazel Tov. Itâ€™s a boy.â€
