HISTORY:
.
On   Sept 9, 1991, four believers: Aldrin Lobo, Felix Daray, Federico Sumay and Olegario Banac Sr. gathered at his  residence with his family for a first Sunday worship.  We feel  and led by the Holy Spirit and committed ourselves to spread the gospel to all the world. From that time on up to Dec. 27, 1998,we were a  mission of County Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Paul Magness, the pastor until we became an organized church into the local   new testament church.

In 1995, when Federico Sumay graduated from the seminary  of the   Missionary Baptist Church, Davao City,  he assumed as full time  pastor. Since that time , he has been a dedicated and energetic pastor, well loved and respected by its member and friends. With good harmonious relations, fellowships and other church services, we win more believers which were good tithers and givers. Thus, with the church income, we started the construction of the church building in 1998.

In 2000, we transferred although construction was  still going on. Finally, in  2002 it was completed and  stood as living legacy of our hardships and sacrifices and blessings from the Lord.  It stood now, the FIRST MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH OF DIGOS CITY which had linkage to the church founded by Jesus Christ .

COMMITMENT:

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with the teaching of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Digos City, we now feel led by the Holy Spirit to commit our lives to God and to the other members to the following:

1.   WE WILL PROTECT THE UNITY OF OUR CHURCH
….by acting in love toward other members
    ….by refusing to gossip
    ….by  obeying leaders
“Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual
        edification”. (Romans 14:19)

â€œNow that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so  that  you
have sincere love for your brothers. Love one another deeply, from the heart
          (1 Peter:22)

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths. But only what is
helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefits
                    those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29)

â€œObey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you
as men who must give an account. Obey that so that their work will be a joy
not a burden, for that would be of  no advantage    to you ( Hebrews 13:17)
2.   WE WILL SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF OUR CHURCH
   â€¦.by praying for its growth
   â€¦.inviting people to attend
â€¦.by warmly welcoming those who visit

“To the church.. we always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in
          your prayers” (1 Thess. 1:1-2   )

â€œ..go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that
my house will be full” (Luke 14:23)

“Accept one another, then just as Christ accepted you in order to bring
         praise to God” )Romans 15:7)

3. WE WILL SERVE THE MINISTRY OF OUR CHURCH
…by discovering our gifts and talents
    …by being equipped to, serve
    …by developing a servant’s heart

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully
administering  God’s grace in its various forms” (1Peter 4:10)

“It was who He  (God) who gave… Some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare Gods
people  for  the work of the service so that the body of Christ may be built up”
   (Ephesians   4:11:12)

“Do  nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility
consider other better than yourselves . Each of you should look not only
of your own interest, but also the interest of others. Your attitudes should
be the same as that of Christ Jesus.. taking the very nature of a servant..”
  (Phil. 2:3-7)

4. WE WILL SUPPORT THEIR TESTIMONY OF OUR CHURCH
   â€¦by attending faithfully

4.   Pangutan-on nato ang atong hinigugma ug higala  kon siya usab buot bang makasiguro
        nga sila mahilangit

The main difference is based on Scriptural mandates. Catholics are encouraged to read the bible daily, to read in their own accord. When we go to mass, we see and read scripture all the time. The First Readings, The Second Readings, all are taken from Gospel texts depending on the liturgical year. If it is Pentecost, the readings will be based on pentecostal message, if it is Easter time, then the liturgy of the Word would focus on scriptural verse for that part of the liturgical year. hehehe.

Main difference to Catholic and other christian protestant denominations is based on scriptural reference. I have attended other christian churches, because i was interested in what they taught, and also because manyof my friends are protestant christians. Ive been to Pentecostal churches (and i did like the experience), methodist, anglican (very much like catholics) and Orthodox Christian Churches (Ukrainian or Greek Orthodox).

The more conservative churches such as Greek Orthodox or Anglican Churches and even Methodist Churches as well as Presbyterian Churches follow in line with thte Christian Tradition that is strictly followed by the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

In fact, many of the christian protestant churches do follow on Catholic Scriptural Tradition, but putting more emphasis on personal interpretation, not more on Church Interpretation. That is where we differ. Naturally.

The Catholic Church has been the same Church, taught the same, professed the Same Word through the ages. 2 Thousand Years it has not changed in its manner of teaching Scripture, the Word, and the Body and Blood of Christ.

Main difference: One has been in existance for 2000 years, and follows strict Apostolic Scriptural Tradition. Unbroken line of succession and ministry (The Catholic Church), the others are new churches.

Similarity is The use of the Holy Bible (Holy Scripture).

And who wrote and compiled the Holy Scripture (Holy Bible)?
Answer: The Holy Roman Catholic Church.
GI modify ra sa mga protestant churches, taking out some verses and books.

All in all, the message is there. It is up to the Brother and Sister in Christ to take in the message. God Bless,

For me, though I can feel the Spirit of God in many of the other Christian Protestant Churches, for God is always there when there is a congregation of believers that call on His Name and Glorify Him. Amen!

I can feel HIS presence when i was in a pentecostal testimonial, AMEN! I felt the spirit!
I felt HIS spirit when I attended an Orthodox Prayer, AMEN!

But for me, i feel completely at HOME, at total peace and feel the embrace of My Savior God, Jesus Crist when I attend a Catholic Mass.

Can you imagine, when I went abroad to Ukraine to study at the Kiev Mohyla Academy of Law and Medical Science for an exchange semester in May 2006, i could not find a Catholic Church when i was there in the first week. I had to go to an Orthodox church, at least na comforted pood ko because they offered the Body and Blood of Christ (following Catholic Apostolic Tradition). But my friend Jeff and I (we were roomates, and both of us are Catholics), we found out that there was indeed a Ukrainian Catholic Church in downtonw Kievan Oblast near the Kiyask. So on sundays we would take the Metro to the Catholic Church there, hehehe.

Even tho it was spoken in Ukrainian, you could still follow the 'Our Father', and the songs that were sung, tho were in Ukrainian, still were the same. Songs like "Here I am Lord, One Bread One Body, Blest Are They etc". hehehe

Personal testimony lang.

Yes, kanang line of succession usa na sa mga dakung kalainan.

yup. yup.

Some protestants think that we worship His Holiness, the Pope. Dili na tinuud. Dili tinuud!

I have to correct my friends when they have that presumption.

The pope bears the keys that were given to Peter. Peter's Chair.
And the Royal Priesthood ---all cardinals and bishops are priests, btw.
And the Pope is just a high priest in the Earth, a mortal man.

But the tradition of 'LAYING OF THE HANDS' has been a tradition that has been practiced since the beginning of the Holy Roman Catholic Church since Pentecost! AMEN!

When priests are ordained in the MINISTRY OF CHRIST, AMEN, HALLELUJAH, AMEN!!!,
They are given the laying of the hands by the Bishops or the Cardinals.
Who themselves were done so when they were priests. Same so forth.
And it continues, the preaching of the WORD OF GOD, unchanged since Pentecost.
AMEN!

hehehehe

AMEN!

If you want SCRIPTURAL MANDATE, I will provide:

We find Paul laying his hands upon the heads of John's disciples in [Acts 19:6] and they received
the Holy Ghost and prophesying.
In [1 Timothy 4:14] we find that Timothy is admonished to "not neglect the gift that is in him
by the Laying on of the Hands of the Presbytery."
In [2 Timothy 1:6] Timothy is again put in remembrance of the gift {ability} that was in him
by the putting on of the Hands of Paul.
These are just some of the incidents in the Scriptures where the hands are used. Usually it is
in connection with some kind of deliverance, either spiritual or natural. But why are the hands
used so much in the Scriptures?
[Romans 1:20] says: That the things of the Spirit are both known and understood by the things that
are seen."[1 Corinthians 4:18]
When you baptize in water hands must be used to put the person in the water and bring them up
again.

God Bless,

My late Aunt Anisia Ferniz Villanueva funded 4 Baptist Chapels, one in Bilar, Sevilla, Mansasa and Dao. After her death, her in-laws continued the mission until to-date. I heard that they opened many chapels in Bohol interior and one of them in Catigbian and Corella.

She found her fortune in land dealings in Kidapawan, Cotabato & Davao. During the 90's I heard that she re-distributed their Rubber & Abacca plantation lands to their tenants and the rest of her money were used to fund the Baptist mission in Bohol.

Mr. Ferniz,

Your auntie was a good example a "doer and 'hearer' of the WORD.
hehehe

James 1:22-25: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”
