It still boggles my mind whenever I hear people discuss the topic of human life and hearing one side legitimize abortion of embryos because he or she thinks that human life doesn't start till the 1st trimester of the gestational period.
It infuriates me absolutely.
Idiocy, total and inherent nihilism to the matter blinds people that think like that; who legitimize and even have the audacity to make a debate on the basis of the 'humanity' of an embryo etc etc.
One individual who I overheard before was telling his counterpart that embryos aren't human because they don't have the ability to make rational thought or make decisions as well as cannot communicate. Sitting in that room with that individual, I had to restrain myself from addressing him for civility's sake.
However, I will make this point here (and I admit that I do feel bad in not telling this individual my point of view when I was in that room--as this has been something that has been on the back of my mind for some time now).
First and foremost, the development of a human being DOES not begin during the 1st trimester, 2nd trimester, 3rd trimester or even in such reputable notions that it begins after interuterine life (birth). Human life, begins upon fertilization and conception. Human life begins when the mature male spermatocyte enters the vagina of the female in mass and finds an unfertilized oocyte (egg cell). The sperm with its pre-conditioned instinct will dig deep into the egg breaking through the outer corona radiata of the oocyte, ripping through the zona pellucida with help of the enzyme Hyaluronidase, which helps in the breaking of the zona pellucida layer, thereby allowing the sperm to rip through the covering of the oovum and implant itself deep into the oocyte.
And when this does happen, something miraculous happens, which Embryology has termed as the 'Zona Reaction', which occurs immediately as the sperm head enters the oocyte/ovum. It causes a chemical reaction of the ovum that makes it impermeable to any other sperm. Fertilization happens.
When this happens, the male pronucleus forms, as well as the female pronucleus forms, both merge into the pronuclei, which will later aggregate itself into a zygone. This is the miracle of life.
From the male sperm we have a 23 haploid chromosome, and from the oocyte we have a 23 haploid chromosome. But when both merge into one; we have the combined DNA of both parental codes. The zygote will then grow into a blastocyst. Upon fertilization, the fertilized zygone attaches itself to the mother's endometrial wall. And from this period on, has direct contact and communication with Mother's body. Mother gives the embryo its host of immune system, which protects the baby from disease, mother gives the baby O2, blood, as well as nurishment during the entire gestational period.
Because God is so beautifully intelligent he has already designed the creation of parts, before they even formed. In the newly formed human life, we have the inner mass called the endoblast, which will later become the embryo--form which neural growth occurs, appendages, eyes, mouths, and all other orifices. And we have the outer mass which is the trophoblast, which will eventually become the amniotic sac, and the placenta, that will cover the baby inside the womb--and thus the growth of the umbilical cord that connects the embryo/fetus to the mother.
And there is constant communication between the embryonic body to that of his/her mother.
So, in all actuality, the embryo, upon fertilization and implantation, has been communicating with the mother. And actually disproves the assumptions of people have that the embryo does not think, talk, or communicate.
The baby, during it interuterine life, moves around, dances, and even kicks and prances about inside the womb of its mother. Its mood changes if his/her mother changes. If mom is angry, the embryo, too, gets irritated. If mother is happy and satisfied, the baby will prance about in the womb, kicking around, and stretches its appendages.
It is the beauty of Life. Life that occurs even before the birth of the fetus/embryo. Even before birth, the baby is already attached to its mother. A relationship that will continue on after birth.
And to me, the conception of human life is not only a scientific phenomena, but a miraculous event.
Human Life, begins in conception.
