There is a General Surgeon in the hospital, Dr. Jensen, who prays before every surgery he goes to. And after surgery, he also prays. Even if the patient survives or does not. He still prays afterwards.

I was so humbled to see that.

BTW, are you interested to read the book, Surgeons Do Not Cry? Your Ate Belle has it now but she too recommends that book for you. It's written by a Pinoy doctor, Dr. Ting Tiongco.

Inspirational for me to meet physicians who are so strong in their faith. Dr. Jensen is a peculiar man, 'te. He has a strong and firm handshake. I can feel his resolve.

It is touching to know that a man who can be so resolved, can also have so much faith in The Lord.

I would love to read that book, 'te.

Pare, I believe that any medical specialist are only God's instrument. I also noticed from ptofessional soccer players that they pray and make a sign of crucifix before and after the game as a sign of thanks. I think you will do the same if your time comes to do some treatments, right?

Medicine, and especially in Surgery, is a seniority-based profession.

It is a progressive step. You have the Experienced Attending Surgeon, behind him is the attending surgeon, behind him is the surgery resident, and behind him is the surgery intern.

The surgical intern is in the back. Observing and listening. The one in front is the Experienced Attending Surgeon. Who, literally, holds the life the patient in the palm of his hands.

Why doctors pray? They pray because their source of inspiration, their source of anything and everything is from GOD.

Ako, I am only a 2nd term Medical Student, but my life revolves around God. There is no ifs, ands or buts about it. Especially in medical school where we live hour by hour, where a good 10 some hours of our day is spent in classes and reading, and doing rounds. Our only solace, mga higala, is GOD.

When we are studying for examinations and when all feels lost and if some concepts wont stick, it is by the GRACE of God that we are able to survive, able to surmount our testaments, and to fight another day.

Physicians who are very devout Christian are so because they survived the grueling years of medical school through prayer. I for one draw strength from prayer. I do believe in the power of prayer.

Angie, when one thinks about The Lord before he or she does something, definitely that individual, through his/ her faith, will surmount.
