Who were Chaldeans?
« on: November 27, 2023, 06:56:27 AM »
The Chaldeans were an ethnic group that lived in Mesopotamia in the first millennium BC. They migrated from an unknown origin to the south of Mesopotamia, where they settled in the region of Chaldea, near the Persian Gulf. They were associated with the city of Ur, where Abraham, the biblical patriarch, was born. They also became involved in the politics and wars of Babylonia, and eventually established the Neo-Babylonian Empire under Nebuchadnezzar II, who conquered Jerusalem and exiled the Jews. The Chaldeans were known for their achievements in astronomy, astrology, and mathematics. They were also called the Chaldees or the Kasdim in Hebrew and Aramaic. You can read more about them at [OWWA-7 website](^1^), [Wikipedia](^2^), or [Think About Such Things](^3^)..

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Where have the Chaldeans gone?
The Chaldeans of today's generation are mostly descendants of the ancient Chaldeans who lived in Mesopotamia, especially in the region of Chaldea near the Persian Gulf. They are also known as the Chaldees or the Kasdim in Hebrew and Aramaic. They have a long history of achievements in astronomy, astrology, mathematics, and politics. They established the Neo-Babylonian Empire under Nebuchadnezzar II, who conquered Jerusalem and exiled the Jews.

The Chaldeans are a Catholic ethno-religious community that hails from northern Iraq. They speak a version of Aramaic in their villages, but most Chaldeans in Iraq also know Arabic. They are a religious minority in Iraq, which is officially and predominantly a Muslim country. They have faced persecution and violence from extremist groups such as ISIS, who consider them infidels. Many Chaldeans have left Iraq, primarily for the United States, where they have formed a large and prosperous diaspora. They are mostly concentrated in Michigan, California, and Arizona. They are involved in various businesses, such as grocery stores, restaurants, and real estate. They also maintain their cultural and religious identity, and participate in various community and church activities.

The Chaldeans are proud of their heritage and their faith. They are also grateful for the opportunities and freedoms they have in their new home. They hope for peace and stability in their ancestral land, and for the preservation and promotion of their language and culture. You can read more about the Chaldeans at  [Wikipedia](^2^), [TimesMojo](^3^), or [GotQuestions.org](^4^).
