June 2, 1953: The coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II took place at Westminster Abbey in London. The 27 year-old mother of two was crowned Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God Queen of this Realm and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Hers was the first British coronation to be televised and the fourth and last coronation of the 20th century. Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in British history.
