May 29, 1818: Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, married Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld at at Schloss Ehrenburg, Coburg. It was not a marriage for love, though the two got on amicably enough. After the death of his niece, Princess Charlotte of Wales, the Duke (and his brothers) rushed to marriage in order to provide heirs to the British throne. I guess you could say Edward won since his only child, a girl named Victoria after her mother, became one of the most recognized and long-ruling British monarchs of all time.
