Care Oncology, a UK-based company, today reports higher demand for telemedicine from cancer patients now undergoing treatment. The company notes that new patient inquiries rose sharply by 35% since March 11 as growing uncertainty related to the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak rose.
"Cancer patients feel safer with our telemedicine delivery," says Jason Butcher, Director of Operations, US, and Canada. "We provide all of our consultations online via a secure video conferencing platform. Given the present state of stress on medical offices and hospitals, telemedicine is the preferred method of communication among patients who are concerned about exposure to the Covid-19 virus."
Patients choose Care Oncology for their unique metabolic therapies that augment the standard of care cancer treatments. Services and communication go through the clinic's online telemedicine platform. New and existing patients are evaluated at a distance without the need for them to travel to brick and mortar clinics. Medications are sent to patients' homes within a few days after their initial oncological consult. Treatments continue for as long as the patient sees a benefit to their health.
"I believe this is the future for cancer treatment that can be taken at home, and I also believe that the Covid-19 crisis will speed acceptance for this delivery model," says Dr. Charles Meakin, Care Oncology's chief medical officer. "First, telemedicine is far more efficient for both patient and provider when the patient does not have be seen in person and when medicines can be administered from home. Second, patients have greater access to consultation. They don't have to wait weeks or months for appointments. Third, and most important, telemedicine reduces the risk of exposure to secondary exposure to bacterial and viral infection, when this option is viable."
Meakin points out that the most significant risk many cancer patients have is associated with exposure to bacterial or viral infections during a time when they are undergoing standard cancer therapies that can leave them with moderate to severe immune dysfunction.
"Many cancer treatments, radiation, and chemo-therapies, for example, are known to reduce the body's natural ability to fight off the effects of common flu and colds," he says. "The Covid-19 virus presents a far more significant threat to cancer patients than it does to the general population. And the risk presents itself every time a patient goes to a physical office for a visit."
According to Meakin, an award-winning radiation oncologist who has treated patients in clinics and hospitals for more than 35 years, the physical office visit unfolds, "an enormous burden of risk to the cancer patient."
Meakin believes that patients and their oncologists must decide whether they can continue treatment given the strain that hospitals are under with treating people with the Coronavirus.
"Two factors that make the risk untenable for cancer patients," he explains. "One, the physical office visit is not always necessary, and two, patients sit in a waiting room for long periods where the risk to exposure to the Covid-19 virus increases with each minute."
Every individual situation is different, and the decision about treatment is a personal one that should be taken together with the local viral risk, Meakin notes.
According to literature distributed by Care Oncology, the "COC Protocol" does not cause immunosuppression and therefore does not change patient risk to the Covid-19 virus. The reason is that Care Oncology's treatment targets cancer cell metabolism.
"In a very literal sense, the COC Protocol starve cancer cells and inhibits their growth," says Meakin. He suggests that some patients who elect to pause their standard cancer treatments may consider using the COC Protocol to help weaken their cancer.
ABOUT THE COC PROTOCOL
The COC Protocol was developed by sister organization, Care Oncology Clinic, based in London, UK. The COC Protocol is an adjunctive cancer treatment that is designed to work with standard-of-care cancer treatment. In one published study, the COC Protocol doubled survivability for patients suffering from Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Patients that showed improvement received both the protocol and standard-of-care cancer treatment (chemo, radiotherapies). Care Oncology US offers the protocol for all forms of cancer to US and Canadian patients.
According to Butcher, COC Protocol is not a form of targeted therapy nor is it intended to replace standard of care. “Our researchers called it 'adjunctive therapy' because the protocol is used in conjunction with standard-of-care therapies (genetic, chemo, radiation),” he says.
Medications used in the COC Protocol have been in use for more than 20 years and are safe, even with all types of current cancer treatments. The medications have been repurposed because they have been found to be effective in interfering with the metabolic processes that are common in all cancer cells, regardless of their tissue of origin.
"The drugs in the COC Protocol have an established safety profile and significant population-based data suggesting they may improve outcomes when combined with standard of care," says Butcher. "The medications in the protocol target the dis-regulated metabolism of cancer cells, a feature that is common to all types of cancer."

Care Oncology operates in the United States as an online, telemedicine provider. The company has a research and treatment clinic in the UK located at 40 Harley Street, London, W1G 9PP.

Zappi’s Babita Earle Elected to Market Research Society Main Board
« Reply #1 on: May 02, 2020, 11:28:49 AM »
With over two decades of industry experience, Earle is passionate about using her new role to drive the insights industry forward and push for diversity at every level.

LONDON (PRWEB) MARCH 09, 2020
Zappi, the ad and innovation testing platform built by brands for brands, today announced that Babita Earle, Zappi’s executive vice president of strategic and industry partnerships, was elected to the Market Research Society (MRS) main board. The appointment will take effect in the beginning of April 2020.
According to MRS Chair Phyllis Macfarlane, “MRS exists to represent the interests of our industry, from the extremely important (but perhaps less exciting) bits – regulation, standards, data protection to membership, accreditation, training, qualifications, communication, networking and conferences, and also pushing us to new things, not to rest on our laurels but to embrace challenge and change.”
Earle has been embracing change as part of the market research industry for over two decades. Beginning her career as a statistician, she moved into corporate agency environments where she learned the technical side of research from the ground up with a firm sight on what brands want and need. In 2016, Earle joined Zappi to use technology to drive change in the industry. She works with Zappi’s big partners to help them transform behavior within their organizations, approach research in systematic ways, and more.
“I am honored to be named to the MRS main board,” Earle said about this election. “It means a lot to be recognized for my accomplishments and to have the community show their support for the issues I care about — namely, diversity of thought at all levels of research and the increasing role of technology in insights. I’m excited to get started.”
With a passion for challenging traditional ways of thinking and ensuring insights stays relevant, Earle is a regular contributor of thought leadership. She is a frequent speaker at research conferences, such as Quirk’s London, IIeX and ESOMAR, and she is a WIRexec member — helping to set up the first European WIRexec conference last year.
“We’re thrilled for Babita and proud to see her achieve this prominent role in the market research community,” said Steve Phillips, Zappi’s chief executive officer. “It’s validation of the hard work she has dedicated to this industry throughout her career. I expect we’ll see great things from her tenure as a member of the MRS board.”

Palawan welcomes visiting Chinese businessmen
« Reply #2 on: May 05, 2020, 03:39:56 PM »
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- Governor Jose Alvarez and other local officials welcomed here recently the visiting delegation of 45 elite businessmen and industrialists from China for a two-day exploratory trip that ended Wednesday.

Provincial Information Officer Gil Acosta Jr. said Thursday that the delegation from Jiangsu province, who arrived on September 12, constituted the core of the Jiangsu Association of Friendship for International Exchange (JAFIE), a group of top business personalities and industrialists led by its president, Teng Yong.

“The governor said that we are glad they visited the province and that we look forward to return their good gesture soon,” Acosta said.

For his part, Yong reportedly expressed deep appreciation to the provincial leadership for the warm reception they received from the local hosts.

“We are looking forward to fruitful cooperation between Palawan and Jiangsu in the future. Palawan is rich in natural resources. We have expertise in infrastructure development, industrial zone development, fisheries development as well as e-commerce and we are looking forward to sharing our knowledge and expertise to the people of Palawan,” the JAFIE delegation head was quoted saying.

The officers and members of JAFIE visited the province to consult with local officials regarding the fishery industry, as well as to promote bilateral friendship and cooperation among the people of the two provinces.

Among the topics discussed were possible cooperations on Fishing Port and Fisheries Cooperation, International Education, and Tourism Cooperation.

Included in the itinerary of the Chinese delegation was the familiarization tour to the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) on their second day.

The visit of the Jiangsu businessmen started with a fellowship night that opened through the singing of the national anthems of the two countries, where the visitors were treated to a performance of the Capitol Chorale.

Acosta said the fellowship night ended with a “community singing” of a Chinese popular song by the Capitol Performing Group. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Clinerion has been certified by EHDEN (European Health Data & Evidence Network) to map health data from various formats to the OMOP common data model. As an OMOP ambassador, Clinerion will support the speeding up of the process to map health data from various formats and institutions to the OMOP common data model in Europe.

BASEL, SWITZERLAND (PRWEB) DECEMBER 12, 2019
Clinerion was selected as one of eleven SMEs (Small and medium-sized enterprises) from a pool of twenty-eight eligible applications to the first EHDEN pilot call this year, to be trained and certified, with the objective to speed up the process to map health data from various formats and institutions to the OMOP common data model.
EHDEN aims to develop a federated and equitable ecosystem of institutions generating clinical data, with researchers across academia and industry, supported by certified and qualified SMEs, harmonizing clinical data and creating a network technology for real-world research. It will incorporate appropriate policy and regulatory requirements, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and ethical research guidelines, via privacy by design in its sociotechnical infrastructure.
Central to EHDEN will be the standardization of health data to the ‘Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership’ (OMOP) common data model (CDM) and the utilization of analytical tools such as those developed by the international ‘Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics’ (OHDSI) open science collaboration and others.
EHDEN aims to harmonize 100 million anonymised health records over five years across multiple hospitals, primary care networks, regional databases, and similar, while developing a durable and sustainable network of mutual research interests. During the project, numerous use cases will validate EHDEN’s work with a focus on health outcomes, measured by relevant health outcome standards.
“We warmly welcome this initial group of SMEs," says Associate Prof. Peter Rijnbeek, Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Coordinator of EHDEN. “EHDEN provides SMEs with free training and certification, an ability to expand their market presence and work with our Data Partners, and to be part of a transformational initiative that will have positive impact on patient outcomes across Europe through open science.”
“Establishing this SME network throughout Europe is a critical step in building an eco-system that supports a range of Data Partners and other stakeholders in mapping and using health data,” says Nigel Hughes, Janssen Scientific Director RWD/WRE, and Co-Lead of EHDEN. “Certified, these SMEs, together with the Data Partners that will be joining in the coming months and years, become a key part of the EHDEN community,” he added.
“Clinerion is proud to be certified by EHDEN in its efforts to tap into the potential of real-world data,” says Ian Rentsch, CEO of Clinerion. “In our support of the improvement of patient treatments and outcomes, we are dedicated to rendering patient data worldwide mutually intelligible and the OMOP data model is fully interoperable with Clinerion’s Patient Network Explorer. We look forward to working closely with EHDEN and OHDSI on tapping into the transformational potential of real-world data.”

Sydney, Apr 30, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Ever since the launch of ABIT beta version in October 2019, the digital asset exchange platform ABIT, which only established in 2019, began to rapidly accumulate users. Until now, the total number of registered users has exceeded 100,000, with a KYC ratio of over 50%. In addition, more than 30 qualified projects chose to launch on ABIT.com. According to KYC statistics, the current users come from 82 different countries and regions, with the top five being: Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), and Australia. At present, the user scale is still in stable and rapid growth.

Despite the impact of the pandemic, ABIT's product development is still proceeding in an orderly manner. According to reports, ABIT official version will be launched in May 2020. Compared with the Beta version, the official version of ABIT will be upgraded in all aspects, including:

Functions of the spot trading (coin to coin) will be improved. The matching performance, user experience and response speed have all been greatly enhanced;

Perpetual contract function will be added, which will support both token-based contract and USDT-based contract, both cross margin and isolated margin, as well as various models of order placement;

The Derivatives Cloud will be launched, supporting the embedding of ABIT derivatives functions into other exchanges, to generate universal depth and liquidity with ABIT business customers;

Additional functions and third-party services will be improved, including credit card purchases, on-chain data monitoring (on the transaction page), etc.

Obviously, the focus after the ABIT official version launches will be on derivatives trading. However, with the top exchanges in great advantage and the converging of product functions, the market is somewhat tired of the derivatives story. It is not easy for ABIT to get ahead in such a competitive environment.

Regarding this, ABIT principle said: "We are very confident in the functions of our upcoming contract trading function. As an experienced team, we feel certain that we can achieve a high level in the industry whether in system matching performance, index marking reliability or the depth and liquidity.”

Looking at the entire market, it is precise because of the high requirements contract trading posts in regards to the trading experience and the depth of the market, there are not many exchanges that can manage to develop and operate independently. It is common to see that many exchanges’ contract function module is actually supported by Contract Cloud service providers. Therefore, real opponents are not that much.

"Our Derivatives Cloud can also provide technical support for other exchanges. As long as we can guarantee that ABIT products are of first-class, our B2B service will expand rapidly in the current market."

Basic Skills for Contract Trading

It is well known that for any exchange to succeed in the contract trading industry, the basic skills must be solid: security, performance, transaction depth, user experience, branding, etc. These basic skills are requirements as well as protections.

The recent cryptocurrency market is rather extreme, especially on March 12th, it drove all-time high and hit record-breaking crash. In addition, crypto derivatives produced a new all-time high of $600 billion in monthly trade during March. Faced with such an extreme market, even some first-tier exchanges suffered issues such as system downtime. As an emerging exchange, the pressure on ABIT can be imagined.

"The framework of our entire system is service-oriented and uses distributed microservice clusters to achieve load balancing and high availability. The order matching algorithms on ABIT adopts a full-link matching and requesting mechanism. The matching efficiency for spot trading has reached 200,000+ TPS/s while 10,000 TPS/s for contract trading matching. For an emerging exchange, the performance of ABIT is extraordinary. "ABIT principle said.

ABIT also has a mature monitoring system overseeing the overall performance of ABIT system, including hardware, network, service, client end, operation indicator etc. When abnormal signals are detected, corresponding responses will be triggered according to the risk rating, to address issues in time.

Another factor of a good contract trading service is that the depth of market needs to be enough. ABIT chooses to aggregate cross-border traffic through ABIT Cloud (Derivative Cloud and White Label Exchange). Currently, ABIT has pre-signed 20 global ABIT cloud partners, and this number is expected to reach 40-50 in Q2 2020. All these clients have no direct rivalry with ABIT because of different geographical segmentations.

Finally, ABIT also improves the user experience through rapid iteration of products. "Although the functions of the exchanges on the market are converging, the product design is not mature. For example, the slippage phenomenon in the order copy function is very serious. In the version we are about to launch, it will definitely solve the pain points so that these products can be implemented on a large scale. In two months, we will launch brand new gameplay that has never been seen in the market. "

Admittedly, the first-tier exchanges have an absolute advantage in terms of user size, but at the same time, it means that they are relatively cautious in implementing new products and features. At the current stage, it is easy for ABIT to move towards a clear structural design. After catching up with the derivatives functions generally available in the market, they can continue to update with new well-designed product functions to confront the top exchanges.

Platform Token Ecosystem

As an important part of exchanges, the development of platform tokens has been a hot topic since 2019.

The value of the platform token mainly composed of two aspects, one is the use value and the other is the holding value. Creating deflation is one way to increase holding value. Equally important is the continuous improvement of the cash flow and profitability of the exchange. Meanwhile, the use value depends on the constant creation of usage scenarios in the exchange's ecological expansion. The competition between platform tokens, in ABIT's view, is essentially the seizure of funds, users and high-quality resources during the development of the exchange.

ABIT's platform token AB has clear plans in both areas. In terms of use value, AB is the only token of ABIT's entire exchange ecosystem. The usage scenarios can be divided into Customer end and Business end. The C-end application includes holding AB to get transaction fee discount, using AB as contract collateral, and to participate in platform voting etc., while the B-end application includes holding a certain amount of AB to join ABIT Super Node, to become OTC acceptors, or brokers. In addition, customers who purchase ABIT Cloud services will receive preferential discounts when paying by AB. The idea behind designing the token economy is that both C-end users and B-end partners when using AB, can get discounts that exceed AB’s current price.

As for the profitability value, it is closely related to the business development of ABIT. Apart from the monthly repurchase and burning, by holding AB, users will also be eligible to participate in IEO discount purchases, obtain project airdrops, and participate in numerous exclusive community activities.

Due to compliance considerations, ABIT will not distribute a direct dividend for the time being, but will take a considerable portion of operating funds to benefit AB token holding community, such as transaction gifts etc.

"Our overall operating ideas is to continuously motivate users to hold tokens through keep on creating reasons for them. When platform users really get benefits and gains from holding tokens, and when the platform is developing positively, the value of AB will naturally climb to a large extend. It is a virtuous cycle. "ABIT principle said.

Rule of victory

In fact, with the increasing attention of international organizations such as FATF and J5 to cryptocurrency transactions, and the gradual improvement of relevant laws in the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the Chinese government's crackdown on illegal digital currency transactions, the access channels for cryptocurrency exchanges, keep narrowing down. With the shrinks of the stock market, all exchanges will gradually fall into a "traffic dilemma."

For the emerging exchanges today, the ability to decide life or death will be—the ability to break the existing market and pull in new traffic. ABIT has two advantages in terms of the user.

One is the ability to develop new markets in new regions. ABIT's main market is in the Asia-Pacific region. In this market, many countries have just completed regulation and compliance legislation. For example, Indonesia has just started issuing cryptocurrency trading licenses at the end of 2019, and India only lifted the ban on cryptocurrencies a few weeks ago. These are markets with hundreds of millions of people. “I am thrilled to be taking on the challenge of competing with some very good companies in our space,” shared Muscolino. “The road ahead will be a lot of work, but with the right team and the amazing customers Breezio has already partnered with, I believe we can really build something special while redefining how organizations and companies use community”.

Over the past year the company has continued to strengthen its product offering through aggressive research and development but also leading in to tighter integrated solutions for customers using industry specific systems to manage their customer, donor and member data. “Integration is key to a great customer or member experience. Data is at the heart of everything and I have a lot of experience connecting the dots and building teams that can help me execute. The x’s and o’s of data integration and setting up the right analytics strategy is what makes the outcomes so much fun to measure and celebrate”, commented Muscolino when asked what top priorities are as the newly appointed CEO.
The company looks forward to sharing more about what is ahead for the organization and promised there would be some small internal wins and exciting new hires in the months to come. To that Muscolino added, “the right team is everything, absolutely everything.. I have a pretty deep bench of talented people around me and company that I keep. New KnowBe4 2019 Security Threat and Trends Report finds organizations still facing significant challenges when it comes to security initiatives.

TAMPA BAY, FLA. (PRWEB) OCTOBER 24, 2019
KnowBe4, the provider of the world’s largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform, today announced the results of its 2019 Security Threats and Trends Report.
The KnowBe4 2019 Security Threats and Trends Report polled 600 organizations worldwide in mid-2019 on the major security issues they will face in the next 12 to 18 months. It covers security initiatives, how well organizations are equipped to deal with security threats, the most persistent security threats, ongoing challenges in security and more.
“This study shows us why it’s a really good idea to step your users through new-school security awareness training,” said Stu Sjouwerman, CEO, KnowBe4. “The threats aren’t going away any time soon – the bad guys are just getting more and more clever. That’s why it’s so important to build up your human firewall – your end users – to better protect your organization.”
Survey highlights include:

A majority of corporations – 86% – have proactively amplified security initiatives over the last year to combat the increase in cybersecurity attacks.

Nearly nine out of 10 businesses – 89% – say they’re currently better equipped to deal with security threats than they were in 2018.

Three quarters or 76% of organizations say the biggest and most persistent security threat comes from “the enemy from within” – careless end users – who regularly clicks on bad links, placing organizations at higher risk of falling victim to email phishing, ransomware, CEO fraud scams and various forms of malware.

58% of organizations cite budgetary constraints as an ongoing challenge in upgrading security.

DA, DOST test carrageenan as plant-growth promoter in Region 1
« Reply #9 on: May 23, 2020, 12:00:54 PM »
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Field verification testing of the carrageenan plant as a growth promoter technology is now ongoing in Region 1 through the collaborative efforts of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Flordeliza Alida, Project Assistant 1 of DOST, said the 18-month project is titled, “Field Verification Testing of Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter for Enhanced Growth and Induced Pests and Disease Resistant in Rice and Corn”.

She said it started this year in the region but the first focus is on rice.

The project aims to determine the efficacy of carrageenan as plant food supplement for the growth and yield of rice, as well as its resistance to pests and plant diseases.

The technology was developed by DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) and the National Crop Protection Center (NCPC) of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) through DOST’s Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD).

This plant food supplement (PFS) for rice and corn is an indigestible polysaccharide (carbohydrates) extracted from edible seaweeds, Alida said, adding that previous tests showed that the PFS increases the yield of rice by 15 to 30 percent.

The carrageenan field verification testing project is a nationwide project of the DOST-PCAARRD, DA, DOST-PNRI, UPLB-NCPC, and DOST regional offices for promotion and adaptation in farming communities.

Alida said at present, DOST and DA are working for the implementation plan and would identify the 5,000 hectares testing areas this month of November.

She said of this area, at least 2,500 hectares would be tested for the dry cropping season and another 2,500 hectares for wet cropping season. (PNA)

OFWs Can Avail of Online Quarantine Certificates

OFW ‘Quarantine Certificates’
now available online: STG RO

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, May 22, 2020 (PIA) —Expect a deluge of Boholano Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), seafarers and returning Filipino and Boholano tourists coming home anytime soon, as the Sub Task Group for the Repatriation of OFWs (STG RO) has turned to a faster method to hasten the repatriation program.
A sub group of the Inter Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the STG RO composed by the Bureau of Quarantines (BOQ) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has decided to publish the Quarantine Certificates issued to returning OFWs from abroad who have completed the mandatory facility-based quarantine.

The Department of National Defense, PCG, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the BOQ agreed on the online release of Quarantine Clearance for the OFW, Filipino seafarers, and returning Filipinos who have tested negative in their recent Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test, May 20, 2020.

This is in the hope that OFWs who are cleared of the viral diseases can readily rejoin their families as per agreed protocols.

According to Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh-Vergiere, during a town hall meeting with the Presidential Communications Operations Office Friday, that the government is keen on the RT PCR as this would be a more reliable test as this can determine the presence of the virus in asymptomatic patients.

Real time RT-PCR is a nuclear-derived method for detecting the presence of specific genetic material from any pathogen, including a virus.
The readily available Rapid Antibody Test, she explained, can only be used after the patient has exhibited symptoms of about 7 days.
As of May 21, 2020, about 14,669 overseas Filipino have been issued clearance to return home to their provinces and towns, STG RO said.
But owing to the travel restrictions and the inconveniences of lining up to claim the clearances, the STG has put up the clearance online.

Through STG RO Advisory Number 052020-001, dated May 31, the repatriation agencies had published the Quarantine certificates in the PCG websites (www.coastguard.gov.ph) and facebook page (@Philippine Coast Guard), and where OFWs concerned may download and print or screenshot their respective BOC-PCG quarantine Certificates as evidence of their health condition when returning to their respective home communities.
The same website also published the OFW’s Philippine Red Cross RT-PCR test laboratory report and a Master List of the OFWs qualified by the STG to return home.

The Advisory, signed by Admiral Joel S Garcia PCG, also said all LGUS, Local Health Offices, Regional task Forces of the National task Force COVID-19, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police Units and personnel manning checkpoints and other government units and private entities concerned are informed and enjoined to extend assistance to the qualified OFWs returning to their come communities.

And as a security measure, the STG said the authenticity of the online generated Quarantine Certificates may be counter-checked through the master List of qualified OFWs as published in the PCG website and facebook accounts.

Or, concerns relative to the authenticity of the Quarantine Certificates can be vetted by email to : [email protected] or [email protected] and its hotline numbers 0917-8424980, 0917842824, 09188038353 and 0998-589-3982. (rahchiu/PIA-7/Bohol)

Washington, D.C.-based tech firm uses Salesforce and AWS technologies to streamline West Virginia’s Unemployment Insurance Call Center, improving and expanding access for residents.

WASHINGTON (PRWEB) MAY 23, 2020
Recently, the team over at D.C.-based tech firm, Enovational, designed and developed a custom solution for the West Virginia Unemployment Insurance Call Center. Using Salesforce technologies and Amazon Connect (an Amazon Web Services product), the team built an online processing system to:

Track and intake calls

Create call-back priority hierarchies between generalists and specialists

Collect and store case information.

Seamlessly integrate the product and Amazon Connect, allowing for single sign-on.

Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, West Virginia’s Unemployment Insurance Call Center (the Center) relied on a manual intake process. Now, with expanding benefits in the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Center was set to receive a major surge in calls. In working with Enovational, the West Virginia Unemployment Call Center was able to proactively launch an online system in two-weeks time, helping provide crucial information and guidance for residents of West Virginia.
Josh Spence, from the West Virginia Office of Technology, had this to say about the project: "In response to the disruptive nature of Covid-19 on the State of West Virginia, strong public-private partnerships leveraging Low-code/No-code and AI technology has defined new software expectations, allowing West Virginia to be more responsive to today’s high-tech citizen."
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s more necessary than ever for states to provide fast, secure, and contact-free information and data collection services. Enovational is at the forefront of this effort, currently working across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, in addition to West Virginia to provide crucial government technology services.
About Enovational Corp.
Enovational is a D.C.-based tech startup and the creator of the Maryland OneStop, among other custom products for state agencies across MD, VA, WV, DE, and D.C.. As one of the fastest growing startups in the DMV, Enovational has grown over 2000% in the past two years, and is projected to continue growing throughout 2020. Enovational stands out from other companies in its intense focus on user-centered design.

Cop, infant killed in Bukidnon ambush
« Reply #23 on: May 24, 2020, 09:36:49 PM »
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – An armed group believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) waylaid a police vehicle resulting to the death of a police officer and four-month-old baby in a town in Bukidnon late Thursday afternoon, authorities said Friday.

A report from the Philippine National Police-10 (PNP-10) identified those killed as a SPO3 Arnel Carillo, of the Bumbaran municipal police, and a still unidentified infant. Wounded were three police officers and two civilians.

The wounded policemen were identified as Insp. Joven Acuesta, chief of the Bumbaran municipal police in Lanao del Sur, and two other police officers, identified as SPO1 Pacifico Cabudoy and PO1 Nathaniel Ibal.

The wounded civilians were Ali Citi, 53, who was hit on her left breast, and Ali Aminsalam, 37, who sustained a gunshot wound on her right arm. They were onboard a a Toyota Fortuner which was not part of the police convoy, authorities said.

The infant, who was hit on the forehead, was with Citi and Aminsalam in the vehicle when the incident happened at around 5:30 p.m. in Barangay Tikalaan, Talakag town, Bukidnon. Police said the vehicle carried seven passengers, who were also wounded.

A report from the Bukidnon provincial police said the SUV was on its way to Wao town in Lanao del Sur from this city.

The PNP-10 tagged the NPA as the ones responsible for the attack but the communist rebels have yet to issue a statement as of this writing.

In an interview, one of the victims, who requested anonymity due to security reasons, said they were caught by surprise.

“We were shocked. We did not expect there were bandits firing at us,” the victim said.

The victim said the shooting started when the Bumbaran police car overtook them.

“They (attackers) thought we were with the police,” she said.

Senior Supt. Benedicto Pintor, Bukidnon provincial police director, believes the perpetrators to be NPA members operating in the area. (PNA/Jigger J. Jerusalem)

Bucolic Work/Living Space in México Built on Penetron Technology
« Reply #24 on: May 28, 2020, 02:29:38 AM »
The official May 2020 opening of the Arboleda urban village of offices, apartments and retail shops promises to revitalize the Valle de Campestre region in northeastern México. Penetron crystalline technology was specified to ensure durability for the extensive below-grade concrete structures.

EAST SETAUKET, N.Y. (PRWEB) MAY 26, 2020
The official May 2020 opening of the Arboleda urban village of offices, apartments and retail shops promises to revitalize the Valle de Campestre region in northeastern México. Penetron crystalline technology was specified to ensure durability for the extensive below-grade concrete structures.
The Arboleda (“tree grove”) mixed-use complex in San Pedro Garza García is located in the metropolitan area of Monterrey in northeastern México and covers over 107,000 m2 (almost 27 acres). True to its name, the offices, apartments and villas, restaurants and shopping mall are arrayed around a central, tree-lined park (6,000 m2/1.5 acres). Hundreds of mature trees, some a century old, were moved from the site prior to construction and replanted after completion of the project. The distinctive architectural design was created by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, an international architectural firm renowned for some of the world's tallest buildings and other urban landmarks.
Creating a Green and Durable Place
“The landscaped park in the middle of Arboleda provides a point of connection between the commercial areas, the offices and the residential areas,” says Alejandro Muciño, the Managing Director of Penetron Mexico. “The architects designed to U.S. building codes, implementing sustainable design strategies and construction processes to best comply with International Building Code and LEED Certification guidelines.”
“La Nube” comprises two 12-floor office towers, home to over a dozen international firms, that face the central park and penthouse buildings. The adjacent 71 Arboleda apartments were designed by KMD, an international architectural firm, and the residential units are available as 2-4-bedroom units ranging from 165-780 m2 (1,800-8,600-feet2) in size. The residential buildings include common areas, a bar, teens & kids’ rooms, and a fitness center.
“The project contractor, Grupo Aldesa, asked Penetron México to advise on the best waterproofing solution for the massive concrete structures,” adds Alejandro Muciño. “The first phase included Arboleda’s underground parking garage and the three drinking water reservoirs, each with 1,500 m3 capacity.”
Withstanding Hydrostatic Pressure
PENETRON ADMIX was specified as the most efficient and economic permeability-reducing concrete admixture for the Arboleda complex. The admixture provides comprehensive protection against concrete deterioration caused by chemical attack, freeze-thaw cycles and corrosion, while withstanding hydrostatic pressure encountered at the construction site in San Pedro Garza García.
CEMEX Concretos, the ready-mix supplier, added PENETRON ADMIX to about 20,000 m3 of concrete during batching. Further, PENEBAR SW-45, an expandable waterstop, was used to seal all below-grade construction joints.
“ODG, the developer, has created a safe and green environment for work and home with the Arboleda project,” concludes Alejandro Muciño. “And Penetron has ensured this concrete foundation will endure for many decades.”
The Penetron Group is a leading manufacturer of specialty construction products for concrete waterproofing, concrete repairs and floor preparation systems. The Group operates through a global network, offering support to the design and construction community through its regional offices, representatives and distribution channels.

Calambeños reminisce Rizal’s happy days in his hometown
« Reply #25 on: June 07, 2020, 03:15:00 PM »
CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – In time for the commemoration for the 121st Martyrdom of National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal on Saturday, a Calambeño professor in history and graduate studies and shrine curator reminisced the happier days their compatriot and the city’s illustrious son spent during his childhood days here.

Interviewed by PNA, Dr. Mariano J. Garcia, retired professor in Political Science, History, and Graduate Studies at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños (UPLB) and University of the East (UE), said that Rizal was no doubt an intelligent and talented man, but he had a lot of sense of humor.

Prof. Garcia said that a niece of barber Mang Ilyong Belan, named Aling Simeona vda. de Alibutud, told him that Jose, his father Francisco Mercado Rizal, and elder brother Paciano used to have their haircut sessions with the popular barber at the Rizal ancestral house.

Aling Simeona said that Jose was nicknamed “Ute” besides all the other Joses nicknamed Pepes, Pepings and Pepitos that were popular Calambeño names during Rizal’s time.

It was at that instance when the barber Tiyo Ilyong discovered that Jose Rizal has a bigger head that was disproportionate to the boy’s physique, prompting Paciano to advise Ute to do some workouts to gain body tone to match his big head, said Garcia.

Jose was the seventh of the 11 Rizal siblings with eldest Saturnina, Paciano, Narcisa, Olympia, Lucia, Maria, Concepcion, Josefa, Trinidad and the youngest Soledad.

“But Simeona revealed there are many other Calambeña lasses who had a crush on Jose Rizal, including her, because he was friendly, intelligent, good-looking and poked fun with his playmates and peers,” Garcia said.

Jose was the only child who used the surname Rizal, which his father Francisco chose from a Spanish government’s directive for Filipino inhabitants to sport a surname following the Claveria decree and the Madrid Directory.

The other siblings used Mercado, a surname inherited by Francisco whose father was a migrant Chinese named Domingo Lam Co, who was a merchant or “market man” thus obtaining the Spanish “Mercado,” referring to “taga palengke” or market.

Dr. Garcia, also said that because of Rizal’s penchant for physical fitness, he put up a gym and taught Calambeño kids various sports from fencing or “eskrima” and the javelin throw and chess.

The 88-year old professor,  who was the Laguna College for Business and the Arts (LCBA) vice president for academic affairs, also revealed that Rizal’s association with the Calambeño youths was highlighted when he led a trek to the Mt. Makiling peak where he cut a bamboo pole and dug a hole to plant it.

“But before Rizal erected the pole where a white hanky was tied to it, he urged his peers and playmates to write their names on a piece of paper and bury them in the hole where Rizal erected the bamboo pole,” Garcia said.

He said that Rizal told his peers that someday, youths from all over the land would gather at the site, a vision fulfilled later when Los Baños hosted the 10th World Scout Jamboree from July 17 to 26, 1959 dubbed as “The Bamboo Jamboree” because of the Mt. Makiling venue which teemed with bamboo and nipa palms then.

More than 12,000 scouts from 44 countries participated in the historic world event at the Mount Makiling.

According to Garcia, Rizal was a simple guy who preferred simple living like eating his favorite chicken tinola with squash because the Rizals' had owned a farm and patriarch Francisco was also a farmer and a tenant in one of the haciendas run by the Dominican friars in Real Village here.

Since the fish variety of ayungin, kanduli and biya abound in Laguna de Bay during that time, Rizal had come to like the “sinigang na ayungin” prepared by his mother Teodora.

Rizal also loved strolling at the coastlines of the Laguna Lake where he drew inspiration to write poems, memoirs about his travel, one of which was his boat ride by the lake where one of his slippers fell. This incident prompted Rizal to throw the other slipper so that other people who found the pair could use them.

“Rizal used to travel with his mother, father and family members on board the steamboat as the mode of sea transport that plied the route from Pasig to Calamba and Sta. Cruz, Laguna,” the university professor said who expressed regret of the dire state of the lake now, compared to his time when people could bathe, fish and enjoy the boat ride there.

Garcia confirmed that the “slipper” incident did happen at the Laguna Lake and not in San Juan River where Rizal used to stroll at its banks, because then the river was clean but was not deep enough for bancas to travel freely.

The historical San Juan River in Bañadero, a village which obtained its name from the Spanish term “bañar” for “to bathe”, was a frequent site that Rizal visited because it was a walking distance from his home, now declared as the National Historical Commission’s Calamba Rizal Shrine.

He said that Rizal loved to mingle with playmates at the San Juan River site because it teemed with fruit trees, vegetables, bananas and his association with the youths may have inspired him to write the poem “Sa Aking Mga Kababata” (To My Childhood Friends).

Rizal also frequented the village Lecheria (named from the Spanish term “leche” or milk) because it was the town center for milk produced from goat and cows at that time upon his elder brother Paciano’s advice to exercise there and drink milk to make him fit.

When Rizal won the lottery while exiled in Dapitan, he wrote to his mother Teodora in Calamba to ask what she wanted as a Christmas gift, narrated Garcia.

But the mother, instead of getting her “balato” from the pot money, told Rizal her Christmas wish was just for Rizal to do what he used to do and  observe while in Calamba  - never to forget to pray the Angelus, always to receive the communion and hear mass.

“When you do these, you (Rizal) have the best Christmas presents for me,” quoted Garcia on Rizal’s mother Teodora’s reply.

Garcia also confirmed that while Rizal was a social activist and a revolutionary through his writings and literatures, and youth involvements, the Calambeño hero never supported an armed struggle against the Spanish colonizers.

He said Rizal reasoned out that the revolutionaries did not have the support of a foreign country, did not have arms to match the enemies and did not have money and the adequate preparation to launch such a “bloody” fight which could only lead to many lives lost among the Filipinos.

He added that Rizal, in fact, cautioned the revolutionary movement leaders to underscore education among Filipinos, to have enlightenment and to be prepared for the kind of upheaval as they see fit during the social realities at that time.

He divulged that Rizal’s elder brother Paciano even aborted a plan for a “prison break” hatched by the revolutionary movement generals led by Gen. Diego Mojica to free Rizal from his detention at Fort Santiago because “Jose Rizal and his family have already accepted his fate at the looming execution and sentenced to die by firing squad in Bagumbayan and the attempt was just a waste of lives among those who wanted Rizal out from jail.”

Meanwhile, Rizal Shrine curator Zarah Escueta also shared that Rizal’s favorite spots at the ancestral house were the library where his mother Teodora taught him Latin, math, “caton” or the Spanish alphabet and other subjects and the “azotea” (terrace) for the story-telling sessions.

Escueta said that Rizal also spent his pastime at the “kubo” a nipa hut as the playhouse for the Rizal siblings, right at the backyard of the Rizal ancestral house.

“Jose played with his sisters, but he also preferred to stay alone while doing painting, drawing and sculpting. It was there when he sculptured the bust of Napoleon Bonaparte, whom Rizal had drawn inspiration from the life and works of the famous French statesman and military leader,” Escueta revealed.

His sisters even kidded him when he showed them his sculpture masterpiece at a young age but Rizal retorted “huwag ninyo akong pagtawanan.” The piece of art seemed to manifest Rizal’s early foresight and wisdom, Escueta added.

She disclosed that right after Rizal’s execution in Luneta, Calambeños were told that a monument in Rizal’s honor would have been erected at the Mercado-Rizal ancestral house which was purchased by Don Isidro Cailles, the Laguna governor at that time from the Dominican friars for only PHP27,000.

But, townsfolk rejected it because the popular request was to restore the ancestral house and convert it to a shrine as a perpetual symbol and gesture of homage and highest admiration for Dr. Jose Rizal.

Escueta also divulged that the Mercado-Rizal household particularly Jose had the penchant for “halayang mangga” (mango), pancit miki and pancit lang-lang fare.

She said that the “muebles” (furniture) were also donated either as original fixtures or reconstructed based on the original stuffs from the Rizal clan and donors when the house was declared a shrine in the 1950s.

She also said that part of the shrine collections is the bronze cast sculpture of the “child Rizal” and his pet dog “Venganza” although there is yet another Rizal pet which could be part of the collections named “Alipato,” the pony that Rizal used to ride in going around town and to his favorite place in Lecheria village here.

She said that the shrine and museum gallery are now interactive to lure the millennial generation particularly the students and youths and visitors to the Rizal Shrine. (PNA) DECEMBER 2017
