Health personnel, public hospitals on alert for 'Nina'
MANILA, Dec. 26 (PNA) -- The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday assured the readiness of public hospitals and field personnel to attend to casualties of Typhoon Nina.
Health department spokesperson, Dr. Eric Tayag, said they have alerted all government hospitals. He also noted that sufficient supplies of medicine have been positioned ahead of any health emergency.
Tayag said Code White has been raised in government hospitals from Dec. 15 to Jan. 6 so they could respond to any possible health emergency during the holidays.
Code White puts medical and technical teams on the ground on standby and requires them to monitor any untoward incident by coordinating with other government agencies.
Tetanus Toxoid medicines, he said, are usually prepared during calamities to protect from tetanus those who are wounded by contaminated pointed objects in flooded areas.
Tayag also assured that health personnel are giving check-ups and vaccinations and that those who are old and sickly, along with babies, children and pregnant mothers are "connected to hospital facilities" to ensure that their concerns are addressed. (PNA)
