The following are the symptoms of autism:
1) "living in his own world"
2) Symptoms evident prior to age 3
3) Lack of responsiveness to others, poor eye contact, absence of social smile
4) Impairment in communication, language delay, repetitive phrases
5) Peculiar repetitive , ritualistic habits (eg, spinning around, handing flapping)
6) Fascination with specific , seemingly mundane objects (eg, vacuum cleaners, sprinklers)
7) Usually below normal intelligence
