Is your belly Big? That's belly Bad coz U are at Risk!
This is the message by the Department of Health (DOH) to its central office employees at Tayuman, Manila or those with big waist circumference (WC) to join them on its own "biggest loser version" pilot program.
The DOH started on Monday measuring the waist circumference of its DOH employees and those found with high WC -- 90 centimeters or more for males and 80 centimeters or more for females will be encouraged to join the six month "Belly Gud for Health" program.
Accordingly, those with more than 90 cm WC for males and more than 80 females are most likely to be more obese, said Raymond Jay Mazo, nurse IV, DOH-Degenerative Disease Office of the NCDPC, who was assigned to take rounds to different offices to measure the employees' waist circumference.
"Belly Gud is one measure of avoiding lifestyle related diseases such as cancer, hypertension and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and can be avoided by
practicing healthy lifestyle,
avoiding stress, exercise or physical activities," Mazo said.
Likewise, Mazo noted that part of the program include aerobic exercise every Tuesday and Thursday (from 8 to 9 in the morning), jogging/walking (3:30 to 4:30 pm) at the DOH compound, "Ala Stress", Monday to Friday to respective offices (3:00-3:15pm), as well as monthly nutrition and physical activity session.
Specific prizes awaits those identified biggest loser such as t-shirt, coleman, bag or things related to sports with regular monitoring or recording of WC until the awarding ceremony of the biggest loser on first Monday of January or January 7 next year, Mazo said.
" Join Belly Gud for Health... lose that extra fat around your waist and win special prizes. It's more fun if you are healthy.
