A bruise occurs when the tissue underlying the skin
become injured. The skin is not broken, but the de-
licate capillaries ( small blood vessels) below the
skin surface rupture, and  blood drains out into the
surrounding area. The blood seeps into the layers
of the skin, resulting in pain, swelling, and "black-
and- blue- marks"- discoloration that starts out red,
then turns dark and bluish, and finally may become
a yellowish color as the blood under the skin is ab-
sorbed. Body parts often become bruised after
banging into hard objects; this is normal.
To minimize bruising, as soon as possible after an
injury, place an ice pack on the bruised area and
keep it in place for 20 to 30 minutes. This stops
the bleeding by constricting the blood vessels. If
the bruise is severe, you may wish to treat the in-
jured area with an ice pack every 2 to 3 waking
hours for 24 to 48 hours, and then switch to 15
minutes of heat, three times daily. The injured
area should also be elevated above heart level, if
possible, to allow blood to flow away from the in-
jured area to minimize the bruise.
To reduce discoloration and soreness, try applying
shredded raw potato directly to the injury for about
an hour.
To reduce the pain, swelling and discoloration of
a black eye, immediately apply cold compress and
an ice pack to the injury. Unfortunately, if the disco-
loration has set in before the ice bag has been applied,
Eat an abundance of dark green leafy vegetables and
fresh fruits. These foods is rich in vitamin C and bio-
flavonoids, which help to prevent bruising. Dark leafy
greens such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage,
kale and spinach are also good source of vitamin K,
which is necessary for blood clotting and healing.
Eat plenty pf products high in zinc, such as chicken,
eggs, soybeans, and wheat germ. Zinc is important
in strengthening blood vessel walls and aids in blood
clotting.
Try taking vitamin C with bioflavonoids, if you find you
are bruising very easily, as a deficiency in these often
causes easy or  unexplained bruising.

Honey

1. Make a soothing facial treatment

Blend 2 tablespoons of honey with 1/2 cup of ground oatmeal. Add a few teaspoons of water to thin the consistency to preferences. After cleansing your face, apply the mixture evenly. After 30 minutes, remove with a soft, damp washcloth. Admire your glowing skin!

2. Enjoy a milk and honey bath

Add around 1/3 cup of honey to 2 1/4 cups of milk.Mix thoroughly. You can even add a few drops of essential oil to give you honey milk bath additional scent. Place into your bath water and enjoy!

3. Treat minor skin abrasions and wounds

Honey has been shown to be a good antibacterial and antifungal agent and has mild anti-inflammatory properies. Apply a small amount to a wound or burn to keep unhealthy bacteria at bay and speed up the healing process.

4. Make a soothing honey body moisturizer

Mix 1/2 cup of honey with 1 cup of cold water and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Mix thoroughly and apply to your entire body after your shower.

5. Relieve sore throat pain

Mix honey with a little lemon juice and take several teaspoons a day when you have a sore throat. This has wonderful soothing properties for a sore throat.

6. Stop a cough

The same mixture of honey and lemon juice used for sore throat pain can help relieve the symptoms of a cough.

7. Condition dry, frizzy hair

Mix honey with olive oil and apply to the end of your hair to combat dryness and reduce friziness. Leave in your hair for 20 minute with a hot towel wrapped around it. Rinse and shampoo as normal.

8. Use it as a sugar replacement when cooking or baking.

Substitute honey for up to 1/2 of the granulated sugar called for in a recipe. Reduce the amount of liquid in the recipe by 1/4 cup for each cup of honey used, and lower the oven temperature by 25 degrees to prevent overcooking. Honey makes a tasty substitute for sugar in your favorite teas and coffees, plus it adds an extra dimension of flavor.

Cinnamon

Recent studies have determined that consuming as little as one-half teaspoon of Cinnamon each day may reduce blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels by as much as 20% in Type II diabetes patients who are not taking insulin it is mildly carminative and used to treat nausea and flatulence. It is also used alone or in combination to treat diarrhea. Chinese herbalists tell of older people, in their 70s and 80s, developing a cough accompanied by frequent spitting of whitish phlegm. A helpful remedy, they suggest, is chewing and swallowing a very small pinch of powdered cinnamon. This remedy can also help people with cold feet and hands, especially at night.

It doesn´t matter how they call it, as long as they loved this delicacy you made with love. By the way did you washed your hands before making the biko?

Calluses most commonly form on the soles
of the feet and sometimes on the hand or knees.
Corns are small coneshaped areas of skin over-
growth that most often form on or between the
toes. They can be either soft or hard. If they
form between the toes, the moisture of the area
keep them soft, corns that form on top of the
toes are typically hard
Having a hammer toe and mallet toe may lead
to a more severe form of callus called intractable
plantar keratosis (IPK). This callus form as a
result of a serious imbalance on weight bearing,
with considerably more pressure being placed
on one area of the foot than others.
These growth can cause inflammation and pain.
Both corns and calluses usually form in response
to repeated friction or pressure, such as from
wearing ill fitted shoes or performing certain tasks
repeatedly.
Compresses made from hot Epsom salt or foot-
therapy solutions are good. Medicated pads are
available that are supposed to treat corns and calluses.
For corn between the toes, dab on vitamin E oil and
place a clean piece of cotton or a cotton ball over it.
Make sure to use 100 % cotton not the synthetic
cosmetic puffs. Put on clean white cotton socks
and leave them on overnight after treatment. Vitamin
E mixed with a crushed garlic clove is good for softening
corns and calluses.
To treat corn and calluses, soften the thickened skin
by adding 2 tablespoonn of Dr. Bronner's liquid soap
(available in Health Food Stores) or a mild dish soap
like "palmolive" to 1/2 gallon of warm water. Soak your
feet in this mixture for 15 minutes. Afterwardss, dry your
feet with a soft towel and rub a couple of drops of vitamin
E oil ( just prick the capsule of vitamin E) into the affected
area. Then using  pumice stone ( logod  ) or a special
callus file, gently file down the top layer of the corn or
callus. Clean the area with mild soap and water, using
a gauze pad or cotton ball, and apply a moisturizer to the
area. Do this twice a day. Wear clean white cotton socks
after treatment. This is effective only if the callus is not
too thick.
Apply a non medicated corn pad ( a small round or oval-
shaped foam pad with a hole in the center) around a corn
to help relieve a pressure. Stretch the pad so that it clears
the corn by at least 1/8 inch on all sides. Then apply
vitamin E oil to the corn, cover with a gauze square and
wrap the toe with adhesive tape. Alternate between using
vitamin E oil and tea tree oil.
Tea Tree Oil- Used topically to disinfect wounds and heals
virtually all skin conditions, including acne, athlete's foot,
boils, cuts and scrapes, earache, fungal infections, hair
and scalp problems, herpes outbreaks, insects and spider
bites and warts. Added to the water can be used as a
douche for vaginitis and a gargle for colds, sore throats,
and mouth sores ( do not swallow it, however.) Alice n Wonderland

ps
I use some papaya leaves also to my feet.
