Fruit Fights the Flu
« on: October 29, 2009, 04:35:03 PM »
Fruit fights the germs we're exposed to in the winter. "The vitamin load keeps your immune level high, allowing you to fend off colds and flu," says Amy Howell, Ph.D., a research scientist at Rutgers University. Fruits also reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Try the five below to give your immune system a boost.

Apples
The most popular source of antioxidants in our diet, one apple has an antioxidant effect equivalent to 1,500 mg of vitamin C. Apples are loaded with protective flavonoids, which may prevent heart disease and cancer.

Papayas
With 250 percent of the RDA of vitamin C, a papaya can help kick a cold right out of your system. The beta-carotene and vitamins C and E in papayas reduce inflammation throughout the body, lessening the effects of asthma.

Cranberries
Cranberries have more antioxidants than other common fruits and veggies. One serving has five times the amount in broccoli. Cranberries are a natural probiotic, enhancing good bacteria levels in the gut and protecting it from foodborne illnesses.

Grapefruit
Loaded with vitamin C, grapefruit also contains natural compounds called limonoids, which can lower cholesterol. The red varieties are a potent source of the cancer-fighting substance lycopene.

Bananas
One of the top food sources of vitamin B6, bananas help reduce fatigue, depression, stress, and insomnia. Bananas are high in magnesium, which keeps bones strong, and potassium, which helps prevent heart disease and high blood pressure.

It's long but very informative

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining — every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc — actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene — the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion... Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE': (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive.

I was really amazed about the cancer info, ako giprint para ihatag sa kauban nako nga
RN karon nagleave kay nagterminal stage na iyang breast Ca ug 56 years
ra baya siya, looy kaayo naghilak gyud to siya kay 5 years ago
na siya nadiagnose ug gichemo plus radiation.

The she went on remission, balik trabaho then last February one Saturday morning
we were on the same floor naassign.
I noted she was grimacing and leaning to her right side while holding it
so I inquired if she was sick.
She said, " I have this pain for days now maybe it's my gallbladder"
So ako siya gi assessed about signs and symptoms then I lightly palpate the area
then I said,"I hope I'm wrong but it seems to me that there's something wrong
with your liver, you better call your doctor ASAP"
Niinsist gyud siya nga iya gallbladder and she's okey and worked  till the end of shift.

Two days later after she went to her doctor, she received the bad news;
her breast cancer came back with a vengeance spreading to her spine
  liver and pancreas.
When she saw me in the hospital, she hugged me while sobbing and we both cried
she said," I tried to deny it, but you are right"
As of now she is in the cancer treatment center in Pennsylvania for further treatment.

Then ang ward secretary sa Oncology floor, 41 years old namatay sa breast cancer
ug ang funeral this past Sunday.
I can go on and on but...in summary thanks for the info it's very useful and
I will practice what I know now.
Thanks a million Hofelina.

Anne sulayi ang apple juice. Kamusta man ang imong BMI (body mass index)?
I never tried this to myself because I was satisfied with my water therapy.
I drink half liter lukewarm everymorning before breakfast.

Statesville are you a nurse?  I have read a report about high incidence of cancer among nurses who works in shifts. It is so sad to hear about your colleagues. I´ll include her in my prayers.

Hofelina, yes I am a Registered Nurse, tinood daghan gyud kaayo
   gicancer bisan asa dapita.

Pero diri sa ospital akong gitrabahoan naa gyud  gani usa sa nurse manager
sa telemetry kay iyang cancer sa right side of her face ug naoperahan
giabisan iyang dila apil, gani naa sad sa laing floor mao gihapon nga area
sa right side sa nawong pero ang iya naabot na sa iyang tutunlan.
Ubay-ubay gyud noon ni sila, mostly sa breast.. :(

I'm not sure kon it has to do with the spectra-link phone nga dala namo
pirme  while on duty and also the monitor attach to the badge  the staff wears mopick up
sa signal  ug mo show sa wescom computer screen kon may patient
mo call for nurse or aide and trace the staff bisan asa ka  basta sulod lang sa hospital.

Nireklamo ko sa among director hinoon and I refused to wear ani nga monitor
tungod sa radiation (so I thought) but I'm not the only staff that refused though.

Naabot ni sa administrator ug nagsent siyag memo nga tinood may radiation(I was right!)
pero the amount is so minute and it is not harmful.

Well, whatever, nihunong na gyud kog gamit ani noon, I do it the old way in cancelling
the call light in patient's room, cancell it manually imbis automatic mopick up sa signal.
from the monitor hanging on the staff's chest to the control panel in the ceiling inside the  patient's room.

Unya sa hallway naa sa kisame ang  control panel to pick up the monitor mo show sa Wescom screen kon kinsa
nang nisulod sa room or naa sa hallway, full name sa staff.
This is one of the drawback of this so-called high-tech age.

So ang ID badge ra akong gi wear wala nay  monitor...tua na  pirme sulod sa locker.

Yes, that's right naa sa among dughan nagbitay ang badge with the monitor nagtupad kaayo.

Thank you so much for the prayers para sa nasakit nako nga kauban sa trabaho.
