Oleander poisoning


Oleander poisoning occurs when someone sucks nectar from the flowers or chews leaves from the oleander or yellow oleander plant. Poisoning can also happen if you eat honey made by bees that used the oleander plant for nectar.

Where Found

All parts of the oleander plant:

    * Flowers
    * Leaves
    * Stems
    * Twigs

Symptoms

    * Eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and throat
          o Blurred vision
          o Vision disturbances, including halos
    * Gastrointestinal
          o Diarrhea
          o Loss of appetite
          o Nausea
          o Stomach pain
          o Vomiting
    * Heart and blood
          o Irregular or slow heartbeat
          o Low blood pressure
          o Weakness
    * Nervous system
          o Confusion
          o Death
          o Depression
          o Disorientation
          o Dizziness
          o Drowsiness
          o Fainting
          o Headache
          o Lethargy
    * Skin
          o Hives
          o Rash

Note: Depression, loss of appetite, and halos are usually only seen in chronic overdose cases.
