7 Dangerous Acts After Eating

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

posted on the internet as passed on by email:

DON'T ACT THE 7 ACTIONS BELOW AFTER YOU HAVE A MEAL ...

*Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher).

* Don't eat fruits immediately - Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore take fruit 1-2 hr after meal or 1hr before meal.

* Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest.

* Don't loosen your belt - Loosening the belt after a meal will easily cause the intestine to be twisted & blocked.

* Don't bathe - Bathing after meal will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

* Don't walk about - People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and you will live till 99. In actual fact this is not true. Walking will cause the digestive system to be unable to absorb the nutrition from the food we intake.

*Don't sleep immediately - The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.

FINALLY DONT JUST KEEP THIS INFORMATION . . ..
PLEASE FORWARD IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. LET THEM BE AWARE...........

as the dr. adrian wong shared the email that he got by posting it, he himself debunked these claims by posting in the same forum his own answer to that email, as follows:

This was what I wrote back :

Seriously, this e-mail is what’s REALLY dangerous!

Not a single piece of advice is fact.

1. Smoke after a meal because the bad effect (emphysema, cancer, etc.) of smoking a cigarette becomes ten times worse?

Smoking cigarettes is harmful to your health at any time. Cigarettes contain as many as 60 carcinogens (substances known to cause cancer), and the nicotine in cigarettes is highly addictive. The addictive nature of nicotine leads smokers to continue smoking, and makes quitting very difficult. The risk of cancer and emphysema is certainly related to what kind and how many cigarettes you smoke, but there is no good evidence that smoking after meals in particular increases this risk.

2. Do not eat fruits immediately after meals because it will bloat your stomach?

Nuts! Fruits can be eaten anytime before or after meals. In fact, it’s a great way to obtain fibre (bulk) and reduce the intake of food – for those who want to cut down on calories.

3. Do not drink tea after a meal as tea leaves contain a high content of acid?

So what? Your stomach produces its own hydrochloric acid anyway. Acid helps BREAK DOWN protein, not harden it. It also activates stomach enzymes which break protein into amino acids. Remember, after a meal, your stomach will be full of food. So what little acid you get from tea is inconsequential.

Do note that tannic acid from tea will stimulate acid secretion so it’s best taken with or after meals. That’s why we have dim sum when we yum cha la!

4. Do not loosen the belt after eating because it can cause intestinal problems?

Seriously, this is utter nonsense. Keeping your belt tight will increase abdominal pressure and possibly increase the risk of acid reflux into the oesophagus. If anything, a tight belt will cause intestinal problems!

5. Do not bathe after eating because it will weaken the digestive system in the stomach?

After a meal, more blood will automatically be diverted to the intestines to absorb the nutrients. Having a bath or not will not affect digestion or absorption of nutrients. Neither will exercise.

6. Do not walk after a meal because it will make it difficult for the digestive system to absorb the nutrition?

Can we all say “utter nonsense”? Together and loudly please!

Walking is good, no matter whether it’s before or after meals. Nutrition will get absorbed, no matter whether you sit still like a statue or walk about.

In fact, walking can reduce heart burn and reduce the surge in plasma glucose levels after a meal – good for diabetics.

7. Do not sleep immediately after a meal because the food will not be digested properly?

Food will be digested whether you are asleep or awake. Sleeping will not cause digestion problems. However, sleeping after a meal is bad because it can cause heartburn, and can lead to obesity.

8. Finally, please forward this e-mail to the very same people you forwarded that PowerPoint presentation to. Do your part to kill this kind of nonsensical e-mails.
