Nuru Jeneby is a sales executive, Metropolitan Hotel, Dubai

We all have our personal lists – of the zaniest/quirkiest/
funniest/craziest/smartest ... We devote this page to them.
This week, Nuru Jeneby lists ...

The show-stopper: As the opera reaches its climax, your favourite Hollywood ring tone fills the auditorium. The entire audience (and cast) turns and stares.

The interview gaffe:
Mid-interview, a familiar tune fills the room. "How very rude of me not to turn off my mobile," you say as you reach for your bag. But your phone is off. The MD has the same ring tone … and you've just insulted him.

The nightmare: When your colleague John sends a racy SMS at 2am, you immediately call back and shout at him for being an inconsiderate idiot. But – oops – your cousin borrowed your phone to text her friend yesterday and the message was actually from her John.

The courtroom drama: Just as the jury stands to read the verdict, off goes your cellphone and the furious judge charges you with contempt of court!

The bad connection:
Feeling sentimental you call your spouse to say how much you love him. But the gruff voice saying I love you too is not your hubby's ... you've punched in the wrong number.

The alarm bells: You're in the middle of asking your boss for leave when your alarm goes off: "Time to wake up.

It's 1pm." Yes, it's on speaker mode.

The hang-up: After leaving a voice message, you forget to hang up and your sarcastic comments are recorded. Ouch!

Street unsmart: You glance at
your caller ID, pull a face and choose to ignore the call.
A few seconds later, your snubbed friend waves
to you from across the road. Yes, she saw you choosing to drop her call.

Law and order: The caller ID says it's your hubby so you answer in your most provocative voice. But it's his mum – she borrowed his cell ...

The reply error:
You SMS a friend: "Boss bought my sick story! Ready for a day of fruit juice in the sun?" Five minutes later you're on your way to the office – you sent the message to your manager, not your mate.

You can never really live anyone else's life, not even your child's.
The influence you exert is through your own life, and what you've
      become yourself.
