Bohol Vice-Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera commended Corazon Gaviola-Atuel and her family of barangay Fatima, Ubay town, for being this year's "Model OFW Family of the Year" award (MOFYA) "Maybahay, Public Servant."
The vice-governor, who personally met Atuel recently in Ubay town, has demonstrated appreciation for Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) families. He said that OFWs have endured and thrived for struggle of being separated from their loved ones.
Atuel represented the Visayas along with other national awardees, Oscar De Jesus, Jr., Seaman, Ama, entrepreneur and Virgencita Lagunsay, domestic helper, Ina, peacekeeper. The award is courtesy of the Globe and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Herrera recognized the heroic sacrifices of OFWs, who are considered the modern-day heroes, not only because for their respective families but also for their great contribution in terms of remittances to the country's economy.
The vice-governor said OFWs' contribution should not be underestimated because last year OFW contributed more than $12 billion dollars to help make the economy float. In the first ten months of this year, they already chipped in more than $11 billion.
