BOHOL CARES’ “AN EVENING OF SHARING AND GIVING” ON AUGUST 18. After becoming curious of the “Pink October” (breast cancer) crusade in the program anchored by ABS-CBN Cebu’s Angela Calina in October 2006, I chanced to meet officers and members of BOHOL CARES, a cancer support group linking people through their experience of cancer, based at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish (OLLP), Tagbilaran City. The group members believe that anyone's support can make an enormous difference in the life of a cancer patient. On August 18, 2007, at 6:00 in the evening, you can dine with Bohol Cares at JJ's Seafood Village. Proceeds of this fundraiser will be used for the Gift of Joy 2007 to provide some cancer patients with their basic medical needs. Tickets at P300.00 per person are available at the OLLP. Guest speaker for the evening is City Councilor Nerio Buchie Zamora. Entertainment will be provided by the Bukang Liwayway Dance Troupe of Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School with choreographer Oscar B. Real. Bohol Cares is open to people with cancer, their families and friends, volunteers and supporters. Formed in 2005 by five women who were experiencing life-altering situations, Bohol Cares, an association of people affected by cancer and their families and friends, intends to promote cancer awareness by early detection and prevention. Members meet informally once a month in a relaxed atmosphere for discussion and the sharing of experiences. As a support group, it provides an opportunity to forget about cancer for a while by holding social activities that have nothing to do with the illness. Last year, the group has embarked on “Walk With Us 2006” and the “Gift of Joy 2006.” A number of the group’s members have already passed away, while others are experiencing recurrence now.
