PB to probe Bohol’s slow Internet speed
« on: February 22, 2017, 11:22:43 AM »
Frustrated by the poor service of local Internet service providers, members of the Bohol Provincial Board (PB) are set to conduct a formal inquiry into the slow network connection in the province.

The probe will be carried out by the PB’s newly formed committee on information technology chaired by Board Member Niño Boniel after complaints from the public reached the legislator’s office.

Several PB members have also lamented the poor service being extended by Internet service providers in many parts of the Bohol as they shared their personal experiences on the subject.

In his privilege speech on February 7, Board Member Elpidio Jala cited an instance wherein the internet connection at his resort in Loay bogged down causing some of his guests to leave.

Jala said that instead of staying for three days, five of his guests stayed for only one night due to the bad Internet service, which the legislator said, he pays for regularly.

For his part, Board Member Venzencio Arcamo said that he has been experiencing the same poor service from Internet service providers Globe and Smart.

During the planned inquiry the PB’s committees on IT and public utilities will be inviting representatives from Internet service providers Globe and Smart.

Slow internet service has plagued the Philippines for several years as connection speeds are sluggish compared to those from neighboring countries which had prompted both chambers of Congress to plan their own probe on the issue
