Boholana humanitarian icon Francisca Baluyot today presented to the incoming capitol administration the need and value of sustaining the partnership for life through surgical missions.
In a coordination meeting at the new capitol this morning, Baluyot named the missions set from July 2019 to March 2020 or within the first eight months of assumption of Arthur Yap as governor.
Yap was represented in the meeting by his transition team head and lawyer Nilo Ahat while incoming Vice Governor Rene Relampagos sent his trusted aide Matt Nemenzo.
Baluyot summarized the joint accomplishments of the Gift of Life and Provincial Government of Bohol under now outgoing Gov. Edgar Chatto that have already saved numerous lives.
The scheduled missions include the following : a) Gift of Sight - Cataract Surgical Mission at the Bohol Medical Care Institute, July 16-22, 2019 b) Cleft Lip and Palate Surgical Mission, Borja Family Hospital, August 19-23, 2019 c) Heart Surgical Mission in November, 2019; and d) Operation Giving Back Bohol Surgical Mission, February 22-28, 2020.
Cases for free operation during the February mission next year involve goiter, gallbladder, hernia, cyst, etcetera.
Another surgical mission will be done on March 20-27 in 2020 which may include kidney operation.
The coordination meeting was also attended by Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio II, Gift of Life board trustees Fr. Victor Bompat and Engr. Al Uy; staff of Provincial Board Member Jade Bautista, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Health; Provincial Health Officer Reymoses Cabagnot; Phileos Blanco, representing Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II, and Dondon Gutierrez, for Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso; and Liza Flores of the Special Projects Unit of the Office of the Governor.
The Gift of Life will celebrate this September its 25th year in Bohol, which is the international foundation’s Philippine base.
A longtime Red Cross administrator before, Baluyot said Chatto has consistently supported but never used the Gift of Life missions with the province for his political advantage.
She is expecting the same commitment from the incoming administration of the province.
In a media gathering with capitol officials yesterday, incoming Congresswoman Kristine Alexie Tutor of the Third District appealed to all Boholanos to work together for their good.
In its board meeting last May 28, the Gift of Life named and approved Tutor among the new advisers of the foremost surgical-medical mission foundation.
