The provincial government, under the leadership of Governor Erico B. Aumentado, will give Datu Sikatuna awards to two foreign partners, a Boholano partner in civic programs and a Manila-based partner and two special awards during the 153rd Bohol Foundation Day commemorative program at 9:00 a.m. today at the Bohol Cultural Center.

Governor Aumentado together with Vice-Governor Julius Caesar Herrera, Representatives Edgar Chatto of the first district, Roberto Cajes of the second district, and Adam Relson Jala of the first district, and all the provincial board members, will give the citation certificates to the five Datu Sikatuna awardees and two special awardees.

The Datu Sikatuna awardees include Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Anthony John Hely; Peter Reichman of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints Charities; Dr. Ludgerio Torres, the director of the Philippine Heart Center and vice-president of the Heart Foundation of the Philippines; Dr. Federico Malubay, the chairman of the community outreach services; and Francisca Baluyot, the provincial consultant on health and social services under the Governor’s Office and the president of the Philippine Gift of Life Foundation, Incorporated.

The provincial government will also give special awards to Iluminado Bok, the honest tricycle driver who returned dollar bills equivalent to more than seventy thousand pesos to the owner; and John Paul Bernales, an honest fish boat caretaker who turned over to the city police a wallet containing US$281 US dollars, 25 Euros, and P2,770 which he found along the road at the city fish port.

The provincial government recognizes the Australian government through Ambassador Hely for its support to the Official Development Assistance or the ODA through the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) projects like the Philippines-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP), Philippines-Australia Human Resource Development Facility (PAHRDF), the Local Governance Development Program (LGDP), the Land Administration Management Project phase 2 (LAMP 2-Bohol), the Philippines-Australia Technical Support for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (PATSARRD), the Australian Center for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR), and the Strengthening the Implementation of Basic Education in Selected Provinces of Visayas (STRIVE). All these projects and programs lead to the poverty reduction in the province, good governance and well-being of the Boholano people.

Reichman, on the other hand, is involved in the different humanitarian missions of the Mormons in Bohol which include acquisition of medical equipment, supplies and medicines and the improvement of some district hospitals in the province which contributed in the improvement of the health services for the Boholano people.

Dr. Torres is also involved in facilitating open-heart surgeries in Bohol through the Philippine Heart Center, while Dr. Malubay served as team leader of the Malacañang-sponsored surgical and medical missions in 2005, 2006 and this year which treated 17,980 patients and 3,490 cataract patients.

Baluyot, for her part, has served as coordinator of various humanitarian medical and surgical missions in Bohol by foreign and domestic advocates which benefited thousands of indigent patients. (AV-Provincial Government Media Affairs Office)
