The 60th birthday dinner in honor of the German philanthropist, Hans Gunter Schoof, dubbed as "Hans at 60" generated a total of P600,000 financial assistance for the Botica Sa Katawhan Foundation. Guests were advised to make cash pledges in lieu of gifts to the celebrator.

Held at the Hacienda Sierra del Mar in Laya, Baclayon last July 31, the affair was attended by well-wishers coming from different parts of the globe, including Manila's high society as well as Bohol friends and neighbors from Baclayon, Albur and Guindulman towns.

Entertaining the guests were prominent performers including actor Sam Milby, comedians Leo Martinez & Candy Pangilinan, singers/theater performers Robert Sena, Isay Alvarez and Mitch Valdez; and rising tenor, Jonathan Bador. The event was covered by columnists Dolly Carvajal from the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and society writers from the Philippine Star, Tattler, and Metro magazines.

Local cultural groups were also tapped to enliven the affair. Staged right at the Schoof's well-landscaped yard was the outstanding open-stage production known as the Sandugo Oracles, produced by the City Government under Mayor Dan Lim and directed by nationally-acclaimed theatre artist, Mr. Gardy Labad. A spectacular fireworks display followed the musicale. The Loboc Youth Choir and the Dimiao Children's Rondalla also had their performances in the same evening.

Games calling for audience participation were made during the affair with cash prizes amounting to P22,000.00. Some 12 lucky guests also went home carting away brand new mobile devices.

Married to Lani Jubac-Schoof of Albur town, Hans has made it a tradition to share his bounty to the Boholano community on his natal day. For ten years now, all his employees are given a sack of rice every July 31. This year, a total of 178 sacks of rice were being distributed to the workers in the Hacienda del Mar, the Shoof house in Alabang and the construction workers of The Peacock Garden Luxury Hotel Resort and Spa, which is currently being built on the sprawling mountain view property of the Shoofs also in Laya, Baclayon.

Maayo man mo share sa imong mga excesses.  I understand that Hans Schoof is a Consultant of the Provincial Tourism Council?  If he is paid by the government for his services? then it is just right to give back to the community.  But if he gave it for free, dapat lang siyang tularan sa iba.....
