Bohol's capital city, Tagbilaran, will be the venue of the fourth biggest heart operation the country's history of heart program next year, courtesy of the provincial government, through the office of the provincial consultant for health and social services in partnership with the Philippine Gift of Life.
The administration of Governor Erico Aumentado sponsors the activity based on the thrusts and programs of Fancy Baluyot, consultant for health and social services.
Baluyot said it will be on January 26-30, next year, for which evaluation for heart patients will be done on October 10-11.
A target number of 30-40 patients will be operated and as per request of Aumentado, employees of the provincial government will, likewise, have an executive check-up as approved by the three drug companies, through the "heart to heart" free clinic which includes 2D ECHO, EKG, blood test and free consultations.
At least 65 percent of the prospective heart operation beneficiaries will be coming from Bohol, while 35 percent of the slot comes from the different provinces of the Philippines.
Operations will be done at the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) under the administration of Dr. Nenita Po and Anecita Bongcas.
Provincial Board (PB) Member Cesar Tomas Lopez, chairman of the PB Committee on Health, said that the said mission will be conducted by a team of renowned surgeons from the Philippine Heart Center headed by Dr. Ludgerio Torres and Dr. Florante Abad; Heart Foundation of the Philippines, through Dr. Francisco Dizon and Dr. Avelino Aventura; and the Philippine Gift of Life consultants.
The three previous operations were also done in Tagbilaran City in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
Other officials behind the program are Vice Governor Julius Caesar Herrera and Provincial Administrator Tomas Abapo Jr. with the assistance of Philippine Gift of Life, through its chairman, Dr. Ramie Cadag, who is also co-chair of Home Reach Foundation; Baluyot, its president and chief executive officer; and vice-president, Rev. Fr. Victor Bompat; Home Reach Foundation through, its chairman, Dr. Pepe Recitas; its director, Richard Uy; Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque II; and DOH Assistant Secretary Elmer Punzalan, office for special concerns; Bohol Representatives Edgar Chatto of the first district, Roberto Cajes of the second district and Adam Relson Jala of the third district.
It is also supported by the AFP C-130; Hildegardeans '89 thru its president, Joseph Alagon; and three drug companies.
Other people behind are Philippine Gift of Life Board of Trustees, officers and members, aside from Baluyot, Bompat, and Uy: Dr. Ramiro Cadag, chairman; Peter Dejaresco, corporate secretary; Engr. Albert Uy, treasurer; Gertrudes Ang, auditor; Rev. Fr. Ernesto Lagura, legal adviser; and Dr. Mary Ann Ruiz, Benjamin Ong, Dr. Teofilo Recitas, Dr. Edgar Lerias, and Joseph Alagon, a nurse by profession- -directors.
Aumentado serves as adviser, together with Bishop Leopoldp Tumulak, while the consultants are Drs. Ludgerio Torres, Aventura, Francisco Dizon, Santos Jose Abad, Florante Lomibao, Federico Malubay, Ma. Lourdes S.R. Casas, Edgardo Ortiz, Elmer Punzalan, Kazan Baluyot, and Julia Maape.
