Chinese governor congrats Yap;
wishes greater tie with Bohol
By Ven Arigo
The highest official of a progressive Chinese province that has nurtured sisterhood with Bohol has congratulated Gov. Arthur Yap, wishing for a more productive mutual cooperation at higher level.
Gov. Yi Lianhong of Jiangxi, China said in his belated formal greeting that he was greatly pleased to know of Yap’s recent election as Bohol’s 26th governor.
Yi told Yap he is “convinced” that “through concerted effort from both of us, Jiangxi and Bohol will witness more productive cooperation in wider ranges, more fields, obtaining more fruitful results.”
Yap has both Chinese paternal and maternal descents.
His father, although based in Manila, is the president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCII).
Jiangxi, which has 46 million people, and Bohol, which population is only over 1.3 million, established a sisterhood in May of 2006.
Yi said that in 13 years, “the two sides have maintained close contact of friendship and conducted extensive exchanges and cooperation.”
He cited the “frequent communications in high-level mutual visits, economy and tourism” between the officials of the two provinces almost halfway of the world apart.
Yap succeeded former governor and now Bohol First District Rep. Edgar Chatto, who had himself visited Jiangxi---and another Chinese province of Sichuan---last year on official invitation.
Chatto renewed the tie with Jiangxi and promoted Bohol as an excellent tourist and investment destination for Chinese citizens.
In his letter to Yap just received by the capitol last week, Yi wished the people of Bohol more peace, prosperity and happiness. (Ven rebo Arigo)
