At least the governor's interventions in the prevailing woes on
high prices of petroleum products never fell on deaf ears when Petron took the lead yesterday in reducing pump prices in Bohol by P1.50 for diesel and P2 for gasoline per liter .
Prices of Petron's Xtra unleaded gasoline dropped from P62.95 to P60.95 per liter, XCS (special) gasoline from P63.65 to P61.65, regular from P59.75 to P57.75 and diesel from P52.10 to P50.60 per liter.
Petron-Manila arranged for the rollback with local dealers while “still reviewing their price mechanismâ€.
Governor Edgar Chatto told the Chronicle that he just received a text message yesterday morning from Petron-Manila official, Lawyer Kat Nicdao, informing about the oil company's response to the public clamor raised during Friday's oil prices forum in Bohol Tropics.
Ticdao told the governor that he “immediately reported to the management everything that transpired during the forumâ€
The governor said he was also told by Ticdao that “as mentioned during the forum, Petron has been finding ways to address the concernâ€.
Ticdao also said that he got an advice last Monday that effective yesterday morning, “Petron will effect rollback in the pump prices in Bohol â€.
With Petron taking the lead, the governor hopes the other oil companies will follow suit.
In fact, Chatto said they discussed the matter during the Regional Development Council (RDC) meeting last Monday where the entire body expressed support to the governor's effort to really bring down the prices of petroleum products in the region to the reasonable level.
Chatto brought up the matter before the RDC as he had earlier told the representatives of the big three oil companies during the oil prices forum.
“I'm thankful that there is already an initial reaction from Petron. We are pushing for what is actually the reasonable level in Bohol,†according to Chatto.
The three other provinces in the region even wanted to be highlighted as among the prime movers in the resolution instead of being referred to as mere supporters to the move.
Chatto gained solid support from regional leaders on his persistence to come up with a solution to the extremely high variance between the prices in Bohol and other areas of the country.
Petron's initial response traces back to the governor's perseverance in bringing out ideas and talking things out between the consumers and the oil companies and the government agencies concerned through several rounds of meetings and fora which finally bear fruit now.
Chatto thanked the Department of Energy and Department of Trade and Industry.
