Clarin MTB race show
Spectacular finishes
CLARIN, Bohol, September 22, (PIA)—From the crack of the gun start to the podium, the top three contenders in the elite category of the 1st Clarin Fiesta Open Invitational Extra Challenge Cross country Mountain Bike Race 2019 built a cranking cadence that had them only separated by a few meters until the finish line an hour and 20 minutes later.
In the 30-49 category, the sprint from Buacao to the finish line defined the victory, but not after a grueling pedaling that would faint the weak and break the lesser forge.
It was a cranking battle of the hardcore mountain bikers from beginning to the end of the 35.4 kilometer route that gathered the big names in Bohol’s cross country mountain bikers to this town as an added pre-fiesta feature, and in the elite category, the rivalry was defined by just bike lengths.
Batuan biker Nicho Lumay (race number 01) crossed the line only a few seconds from top contender Adelino Buligan of Calape ((03) and Acrhie Enad of Sagbayan (#35) to occupy the top three slots with a trophy in the five places with a cash prize and certificate.
Coming after them hot was biker Deven Valderosa (24) and Jesryl Almacin (#23).
Sponsored by the Municipality of Clarin Committee on youth and Sports, along with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and Clarin Bikers Adventure Team, the 1st Clarin Open Invitational Extra Challenge Mountain Bike Race 2019 posted a record time of a little over an hour for the entire route that took bikers from the Poblacion to Nahawan, and to the climbs starting from Cantuyoc, to the undulating terrain of Caboy, Mataub, Tuntonan, Villaflor, Bugtongbod, Cabog, Tubod, Danahaw, and the most technical climbs from Buangan to Candajec and up to the town’s highest point in Katipunan.
From there, the route swerved into the scenic concrete barangay roads snaking downhill to Buacao and the sprint back to the Cultural Center.
Opened for the Elite, 50 and above, 30-49 and 29 below, the race invitational race hand over a hundred bikers geared up for the long climbs and the sheer joy of life in a saddle and behind a cockpit.
In the 29 and below category, John Mark Acman (#40) took the top spot when he crossed the line before Francis Cortes (#37) and Jay Kenneth Laga (#41).
At fourth place was Nicole Joshua Gambe (#36) with Kim John Ligones (21) on his tail.
In the 30-49 age category, it was another spectacular photo finish when Atty Butchie Zamora (#59) blazed through the line with Talibon’s Roger Torreon (#55) on his tail, sticking like glue.
Behind them was Ricky Durano (#50), Jobier Visto (#890) and Julius Daluperit (#52).
In the golden category, rider Concordio Bernales (#09) crossed the line first followed by Felix Perex (12) who was chased by Clarin teacher Flor Tunday (#81).
Police Officer Bilbert Aguilar (#08) placed fourth and followed by Alyan Macalam (#06).
It was a lovely challenging trail even the professional bikers agree, the climbs were endlessly painful, admits Buligan, who had numerous awards in his belt.
Bikers with wide range of gears got the best in the long climbs, but those with fewer, and thus lighter and less cumbersome shifting also took the advantage to the hilt.
Most of the winners had the lighter 1x or 2x drive trains, noting that the course had more climbs than flat tracks.
The race started off with a short program and a bike parade around the town’s main thoroughfares. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
