Press ReleaseThe Provincial Government of Bohol through Provincial Agriculture Office in partnership with the Bohol Ubi Center Foundation Inc., LIFE Foundation Inc. and other collaborating agencies will be celebrating the 8th Ubi Festival, January 23-24, 2008, at the Bohol Cultural Center, Tagbilaran City with the theme “ Hagit sa Panahon: Ubi sa Bohol Palambuon.â€
The activity will start with a parade at the Plaza Rizal at 8 a.m. on January 23. The opening program will immediately follow at the Bohol Cultural Center. Gov. Erico B. Aumentado is slated to grace the event together with Vice-Gov. Julius Herrera, Cong. Edgar Chatto, Cong. Adam Jala, Cong. Robert Cajes, Liza M. Quirog, Provincial Agriculturist and Dr. Jose F. Quitazol, Consultant on Agricultural Affairs.
This event will be participated in by the Local Government Units, farmers, ubi processors and other agricultural key players of the industry. The major highlights of the Ubi Festival 2008 are the Product Display and Selling, Market Matching, Contest on Best New Ubi Processed Product, Literary Musical Contest (Balak, Balitaw, Kuradang and Jingle) and Poster Making contest. Other contests include Best Booth, Bohol-like shaped Ubi and Most Colorful LGU on Parade.
The said event will showcase Bohol’s Ubi harvests, create market linkages between buyers and sellers, encourage development of new products and promote Bohol as an agri-tourism province. (Villa M. Inguito)
