Office of the Governor The Bohol Provincial Development Council Executive Committee (PDC Excom) has approved a resolution endorsing 11 provincial roads for declaration by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo into tourism highways.
Gov. Erico Aumentado, PDC chair, said the declaration will qualify them for funding by the national government that has more funds than the local government.
Copies of the resolution will be furnished the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The roads include the Guindulman-Anda-Cogtong-Candijay-Mabini-Ubay Road traversing the Anda Peninsula that Aumentado has prioritized as next to Panglao for tourism development; the Sagbayan-Carmen-Sierra Bullones-Jagna Road that runs across from the northwest to the southeast coasts of fist-shaped Bohol; the Sierra Bullones-Pilar-Alicia Road which is an agri-tourism highway; the Macaas (Tubigon)-Balilihan-Cortes Road; the Catigbian-Sagbayan Road; the Batuan-Hanopol-Balilihan Road; the Sagbayan-Danao-Magtangtang-Buenavista Road; the Tinago-Dao (Dauis) Road; the Pangangan, Calape Circumferential Road; the Tagbilaran-Corella-Sikatuna-Sevilla-Bilar Road; and the Antequera-San Isidro-Catigbian Road.
The roads give passers-through good views of Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, mini rice terraces, lush forests, jade-green rivers and the Dagohoy Shrine in Barangay Magtangtang in Danao town – the headquarters of Dagohoy who led an 85-year revoilt against the oppressive Spaniards.
Earlier, the council also endorsed to the RDC the P10-million concrete paving of the 2.5-kilometer Calayugan-Ubojan section of the Sandingan Island Circumferential Road in Loon town.
Sandingan where the Mocpoc fish port is located is the jump-off point for Cabilao Island – a favorite of scuba divers for its biodiversity that boasts of hammerhead sharks, among others.
The council also adopted Aumentado’s Ten-Point Legacy Agenda for parallel adoption by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
