To arrest the moisture content factor in the poor quality of rice grains, the Bureau of Post-harvest, Research and Extension (BPRE) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) has provided farmers with access to low-cost drying technology that utilizes a mechanical dryer equipped with rice hull-fed furnace.
The drying equipment costs about 30-50% lower than the conventional dryer of the same capacity.
This is in consideration that rice grain quality greatly affects its buying price, and unfavorable climatic conditions during harvest season often leads to improper or delayed drying of grains, resulting to poor quality rice and reduced income.
It has been observed that the existing drying facilities in the country today, cannot meet the drying requirements of the farmers.
