Aumentado seeks DOE support on power transmission project

Governor Erico B. Aumentado recently sought the Department of Energy's support for the implementation of the Bohol Backbone Transmission Project which poses to address the power supply problem in Bohol.
In his letter dated August 14, 2007, Governor Aumentado updated Energy Secretary Angelo T. Reyes on the plan of the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) to implement the Bohol Backbone Transmission Project.
The project aims to accommodate load growth and address the low voltage problem, improve system reliability and operational flexibility and extend electricity service to areas which used to have no access to power supply, Aumentado explained.
The governor also cited an information from TransCo saying the feasibility study on the project has already been completed.
TransCo's Management Committee has also approved the project for endorsement to the National Economic and Development Authority-Investment Coordination Committee (NEDA-ICC) for approval and it shall be endorsed to the NEDA Board, Aumentado said.
The Provincial Development Council (PDC), during its full council meeting on July 28, 2006, passed a resolution urgently requesting TransCo to prioritize the implementation of the project.
The Bohol Backbone Transmission Project involves the installation or construction of a total of 95 circuit-kilometers of 138 kV overhead transmission line in Ubay-Corella utilizing steel tower structures as well as the expansion of existing substation and construction of a new substation in Corella.
TransCo programmed the improvement of the existing transmission system to meet the projected demand of Bohol as one of the islands that have shown promising economic progress in recent years.
